I don't disagree but what I mean is it would be more tolerable if more of them offered a unique experience. For example, they could replace two of the swordsmen with an axe user and a lance user, maybe another one or two with an archer and/or a mage and I would be much happier. It's an insult to the IP to keep throwing in sword users like the weapon triangle, magic and ranged attacks aren't an important part of what gives the series its identity.

Well true, I usually don't think of pokemon species as characters but for purposes of Smash Bros they would be. So not combined, at least, but without counting, I'm honestly not convinced there are more Pokemon than FE characters.

The problem is most of the more popular FE characters are sword users. And they seem to prefer using Lords and avatar characters. That basically leaves Hector and Ephraim as viable choices for axe and lance. Magic is covered with Robin, even if he does use a sword too for melee attacks.

Sacred Stones is one of my favorite FE games, but I don't know if Ephraim and Eirika are popular enough to make it to Smash. Even if I do think giving them a similar treatment to old Zelda/Sheik would be neat.

Eirika would probably be quicker, lighter, and more agile, Ephraim would probably be stronger, heavier, and with more range.

This is my main complaint with the FE representation in Smash. Like, no we don't need literally every combination of weapon / horse / flier / magic color, but a complete weapon triangle would be nice. Adding in someone like Azura for lances and Hector for axes would have been great.

What they're doing would be like if the Pokemon reps featured exclusively Gen 1 pokemon, consisted only of the fire starters from each gen.

Erika was popular enough to show off the weeding dress job back when it was new and despite not knowing the franchise that well I know who those two are just because I would see the gba game on shelves back then and their game was one of the free ones given away to first time buyers for a time for the old 3ds, I'd say they're fine, too bad Warriors was too shitty to give anyone else screen time besides Awakening, the original guys from marth's crew and Fates, I really can't stand anyone from Fates

Eirika is actually not popular.

From the mobile game, Lyn, Lucina, Celica,Tharja and Camilla are way more popular.

Eirika has zero chance because Lyn would have had more variety gameplay wise (she can wield a bow plus sword), is leagues more popular (she's the most popular Fire Emblem character not named Ike), already had an assist trophy.

Plus people would actually be infuriated if Eirika got included

I mentioned this in another topic, but if they actually cared about variety of gameplay they could have had the following line-up

Sword: Marth, Ike
Axe: Hector
Tome: Celica
Bow: Lyn
Lance: Ephraim

All 6 are lords, all are very popular (except for Marth)
and all of these (except for Marth) were choose your legend characters in the mobile game (aka the characters the fans chose to get alts)

They fucked up royally by putting in Lucina, Chrom, Robin and Corrin. Robin and Corrin are complete abominations lmfao. Character wise and in their game.

Lucina and Chrom are just Marth clones. Yawn.

Chrom, because I previously mained both of the characters (Roy and Ike) that he borrows his moveset from, and because one of my favorite voice actors of all time (Matt Mercer) voices him. I'll try out Ridley, K-Rool, and Inkling too, but I have no interest in the Castlevania characters at all.

I agree 100%, right down to Azura and Hector being the best choices for newcomers using those weapon types. But I can also suggest another option: the could have turned Lucina and Ike into their "Brave" versions from the Fire Emblem Heroes mobile game, where Lucina uses a lance and Ike uses an axe. They can both use those weapon types in their respective games (after promoting classes) too. Plus, Ike could still pretty much use the exact same moveset with an axe, just change a couple of hitboxes.
