Hey, folks. I hope life is treating you all well.

So I have been bumping into a lot of strange people with strange views irl lately....and there has been this weird consensus that kinda bothers me.

Here's my question for you:

If you saw someone at school, or at work (or anywhere really) drawing/painting/sculpting some kind of fictional/fantasy/sci-fi monster......with lots of attention to detail, lots of skill required...and it looked really foreboding, scary, creepy (which was clearly the artist's intent)........would you think there is something psychologically disturbing about the ARTIST for them to create such a thing?

I won't elaborate beyond that, because I want to see what some of you think first.

Yes, but the more important question is if it matters.

Like, I fucking love me some Zdzisaw Beksiski, but that dude's head was messed up.

If the subject of the art itself is creepy and kind of deranged? No, the artist is probably good. Now if the action or situation in the artwork is fucked up, then that probably does reflect onto the artist's mindset.

I'm relieved that a lot of you wouldn't think there's something wrong with the artist.

Muscles said it best: You can travel to dark places and not be a messed up person.

It's called creativity. And, sadly, I've met a lot of people who can't seem to make this distinction.

And it's a bit hypocritical of them....because they cherry-pick their negative judgment. They'll see a kid drawing a creepy monster with a big mouth full of teeth and eyes that drip blood...and it looks creepy as hell.....and they think the kid is a "weirdo" or has "issues" because of this.

Meanwhile, they'll go to a tattoo parlor and get a tattoo of a skull on their arm that's dripping souls of the undead from its mouth with a snake weaving in and out of its eye sockets....and that's "totally cool". And they don't think there's anything messed up with the tattoo artist for coming up with it.

Or people who watch horror movies with nasty violent creatures that tear people limb from limb. But the writers and directors aren't weird freaks with issues. They are successful dudes who are absolutely cool in all ways.

It just irks me.

Depends on the work. A disturbed mind certainly helps with disturbing visions.

This, really. Like one exaggerating a fetish, perhaps. But a superbly-detailed creature I felt could be in a movie or series? Not at all.
