Not really, new restaurants and stores are opening up all over the place and a ton of them have help wanted signs out front. On the "skilled" labor front, depends on what you are looking to do. On the whole, it is actually a pretty good job market though.

Here in NYC, nah...Good paying ones even for lower, entry level.

Now the quality of the job on the other hand...(compared to the cost of living here)

If you're actually willing to take any job at there are jobs everywhere.

What people mean when they say there are no jobs is there are no jobs they want that pay what they think they deserve for their skill level.

People who think there are no jobs really just aren't looking hard enough. I have seen people who just spend 10 minutes a week browsing the help wanted ads, and that's all they do. That's not job searching. If that's your idea of job searching, then it will take you 10 years to find a job. Job searching should be a full time job in itself.

People like this tend to have a bloated sense of their self-worth and aren't worth even half what they think they are.

Take NMB for example. The dude has literally said he is too good to work at McDonalds and Walmart. LOL. Those are basically the only jobs he is even qualified for. He is certainly not too good for them.

There are hiring signs all over, so probably not. However, great jobs you kinda have to travel for.

Technically he might not even be qualified for those, since they tend to want high school graduates and I'm not sure what wonky ass qualifications he has from being home schooled (assuming that much schooling occurred)

I live out in the middle of nowhere so there aren't many jobs at all nearby. I have to drive about 30-45 minutes to get to the city, but high tech jobs are still pretty scarce, except for really low-paying entry level stuff. Silicon Prairie my butt.
