I mean I get that some folk may not be aware of said "spoiler" so it would be a spoiler to them personally but I'm talking about in general. Do you think it's fair for youtube channels or any other form of social media including forums to discuss said spoilers openly once the thing has been made public or should they be more considerate such as marking spoilers, not having spoilers as thumbnails and so on? Thoughts?

Depends.

Some spoilers like Darth Vader is Luke Skywalker's father was a spoiler, but that was from a movie over thirty years ago. Most people have watched the movie and those who haven't by now, probably won't. Due to this, it's usually safe to not spoiler tag this.

However, something like Han Solo dies at the end of Star Wars: The Force Awakens is still a recent spoiler and would spoil that movie for most people who haven't seen it, despite the logic of the previous comment, where if they haven't already seen it, they probably won't. It's only been three years so it's still "new".

Furthermore, a spoiler for something that hasn't been released yet, like plot spoilers for Cyberpunk 2077, would not be taken lightly, since the game hasn't been released yet and won't be for a while.

I think there needs to be some understanding that not everyone has seen the item in question instantly. So yes, you can speak about spoilers, but have the common courtesy to give a spoiler warning.

And a fair spoiler warning, at that. I hate it when Im listening to something and (Ill make something up for this example) the guy or girl talking says something like So yeah, I saw Justice League 2 this weekend and was shocked when, spoiler alert, Flash died! You gotta give more than a 1 second warning that youre about to spoil something if its still very new info.

A spoiler is a spoiler is a spoiler. You can reference certain things without killing a movie for somebody, but it's basic consideration to try to avoid spoiling certain things. A few SW spoilers are extremely well-known now but I still wouldn't go broadcasting it. And I've had *many* things spoiled for me by some dick on Youtube who had the spoiler right in the video name or thumbnail. It's been so bad that there are times when I've considered avoiding the service altogether if I'm actually planning on seeing something right away.

That said, for reposted clips you *kinda* need something that lets you search the spoiled event. For instance, there's a scene in TF: DotM that I love rewatching because it's practically the only awesome moment in the film. And some things I only watched because they were spoiled first, so it's not always been bad.

I don't try to avoid spoilers and I think if a spoiler ruins a movie then the movie probably sucks

That's my stance on it too.

I mean I understand things are put in the title of things like youtube videos for search reasons and clicks. Also even the thumbnail can get a click but due to the fact that youtube recommends you videos and channels regardless of if you're a subscriber or not I feel not having a spoiler in the thumbnail is the least these youtubers can do.

I questioned a youtuber about this and this was his response:
WWE Smackdown 21/8/2018 spoilers
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vs0M4-mSDww" data-time="&start=0

A few notes:
- I never said I subscribed. As I said above youtube recommends videos
- I clicked because he spoiled something anyway due to the thumbnail
- The spoiler wasn't a big deal for me but still
- I should not need a completely blackout from the internet just because of a handful of idiots
- The show already being aired doesn't mean it's not a spoiler. Quite a few don't watch right away.
- He claism it's not a spoiler yet calls himself a spoiler channel/website
- Other channels doing it doesn't make it any less annoying
- The only issue I had was that he had said spoiler in his thumbnail and he seems to do this "for years"
- Perhaps he would have more subscribers if he didn't do that shit. Although subs mean more to him then me so eh
- His channel other than that is actually good and I agree with his views. I won't however subscribe due to spoilers. I'll visit his site instead once I've watched said things though and even watch his videos on his site
- This is the first time a youtuber has addressed me on youtube so yay me.

You're kinda expecting too much from people who are very often little more than attention-seeking degenerates looking to make a living without actually working. And they'll go out of their way to be obnoxious just to attract added views, especially because their actual content won't win them many fans.

tbh, YT needs to give viewers options for curating recommendations.

I've zero issue with his content outside of that. His actually a decent guy on his channel and says things I agree with. It's just a shame he has to be a arsehole about this but yes you're right.,. I kinda expect too much from people. That too much being common sense.

Yeah I mean on Facebook you can be subscribed to a page and "unfollow" them thus you don't see what the page posts until you click on it. Something like that for youtube would be great but of course doing that means less videos watched on youtube and less money for them so eh.
