I swear, so many stores have been slowly raising the middle finger toward gamers. Best Buy dropped Gamers Club Unlocked, Gamestop got rid of Powerup Pro Elite after a year, and Amazon had already changed their discount from "within two weeks of release" to "preorder only." Now even that's gone.

Between all that, fewer games appealing to me, and many of the ones that do getting canceled, it's getting easier and easier for me to walk away from scene after I pick up a few more games I'm looking forward to. After that I have no qualms with just focusing on my backlog from now on.

It's all because of BestBuy. They had to drop it to sustain financial surety against online marketplaces. After they did that, Amazon felt less pressure to continue offering that service, hence them dropping it.

It was nice while it lasted. I probably saved a good two or three hundred dollars during that time.

I thought something was fishy when it didn't apply to a normal version/non-collector's edition version of a game I pre-ordered yesterday

fuck you, amazon

I didn't know about it until i saw this topic. Granted, I very rarely pre-order games these days but it would have been nice to know when I pre-ordered the Sonic Mania collector's edition last year.

Games are cheaper than ever and you tend to get much more game for $60 than you used to

I dont see this as that big of a deal. Especially when most games go on sale digitally pretty rapidly after release.

Last year Amazon Canada dropped it from 20% to 10%, and I just got the email today saying they were getting rid of it entirely.

Which basically means I'll never preorder a game again.

I liked to do it with a lot of first run ds/3ds atlus published games that always came with special contents and were pretty much guaranteed to have a limited run

Cheaper how, though? Do you mean in terms of adjusting for inflation?

Was this because of that thing that happened last week? With the PS games on Amazon?

Not much reason to usually

They sometimes had pre-order content or whatever. But I do agree that there wasn't usually a reason to do it. I stopped after seeing how my mom would never pre-order a game and always still got it first day.

I was wondering this, too... Though I do understand the much more game than you use to get part...

Good, pre-ordering is stupid, so the less incentives people have to do it, the sooner it can die and we can remove at least one cancer from gaming.

I don't always mind pre-ordering in certain cases. Especially when I know I'll be traveling. I can get a package and have my roommate get it for me. Or I can buy it and not have to worry about not having the money later. It works for some even if it doesn't work for you...

For the record, I saw this coming a mile away. The writing was on the wall once GCU came to an end. I think I explicitly predicted it too.

With less competition, stores feel no incentive to stay competitive.

No even before inflation games are pretty much flat out cheeper, and they tend to drop in price quickly now adays, in the past they would generally stay the same or get even more expensive when they went out of print.
