Yeah it was pretty good. 00s weren't that bad either. But 90s might be best.

50s were relatively solid if you were a man and also healthcare was much worse but still fun times then too.

Was it? Or was it that people were blind to all the horrors of humanity?

The world hasn't gotten worse, people are just more aware of it with the internet and 24/7 news cycle.

Also the worst genocide since WW2 took place in the Balkan War, where my fiance's family fled Bosnia as refugees, split all across the globe to the first country that would take them. 8000+ men killed solely for being Muslim.
