22-26 were the worst years of my life.

I'm only 32 now, but I can almost guarantee that I'll be happier at 35 than any time in my mid-20's.

I'm more stable and financially secure and have much better perspective now at 35 than at 25 for sure, but I wouldn't say I'm happier. I'd be happiest with a mix of aspects from 35 y/o life and 25 y/o life tbh.

No that's not the reason why

People at 25 are usually still looking for a career while people at 35 are usually well established in their careers and have families and what not

Sure, that fact may not do wonders for you if you're a depressed person in said mid-30s without either of those things I mentioned, but it'd be foolish to pretend to be unaware of that

Seems like a baby boomers life.

I have none of those things... but I'm still somewhat happier at times. I might be getting depressed again though.

Yes.

25 - rented an apartment, had low rung position in career, saw my girlfriend a couple times a week, not much in the way of hobbies, not much disposable income to do things like travel

35 - own house with wife, am now an office manager at work, lots of new hobbies and two new sports I never played before, lots of spare income to do cool experiences

I think the key to being happier when you're older is not feeling like you missed out on valuable/fun life experiences when you were younger. It's still possible to be happy if that's an issue for you, but it might nag you a little.

For instance, I wish I would have "sewn my wild oats" a bit more when I was younger. I feel like I've been with way less people than anyone else I've ever met, and especially for my age. At 32 you're pretty much past the point of casual hookups and partying. Most people have either settled down or are looking to settle down. Personally, I can't imagine hanging out at a club or the typical bar full of late teens/early twenty-somethings.. nor would I particularly want to.

So maybe going forward, I have to learn to just let that go and be satisfied with the experiences I did/do have. Then keep on improving and working on what I can change while chasing things that do make me happy now. I find the most peace/happiness when I'm out in nature. I'll drive out to the mountains and go for hikes and see some pretty amazing things. I'll probably keep going until I'm physically unable to do so.

Nobody likes getting older, Joe. Nostalgia is a bitch and it feels like your health, looks, and maybe even life in general just keep getting worse with every passing year. I sometimes feel like life is just for the young. When I'm out I see young people.. couples, friends, etc. They look so vibrant and just full of passion and real love for life. I can remember feeling like that before too, but I guess I let it slip away. I don't think that's a consequence of aging though, I think I just didn't handle it well.

Depends on how you define happiness. 25 was better for me in terms of pure bliss. I didn't really worry about much, I was looking forward to finishing grad school and starting my first real job, and I played a lot of video games.

At 35, I worry about more things, have more responsibilities, but I'm happy because my life feels more satisfying. I've found the girl I will (probably) marry, I have a house, I have progressed in my career, and I still play a decent amount of video games.

I'm hoping that by 45 I will have a growing family to keep the evolution of happiness going.

It's a tough call. I did a lot of fun stuff when I was 25, but also a lot of bad shit happened to me. Nowadays my life is much more consistently good, and I'd say my general happiness is a bit higher. Of course, at 25 my current situation wouldn't have made me happy

I'm glad for the amount of positivity in this topic, but I do fall more into the sentiments that @Ultima_Dragon says. Which is a bummer, because that "life is for the young" thing I think is intellectually dumb but emotionally I buy into it hard.

Which really sucks because I'd like to live now.

I remembered that much, but I wished I remembered more specifics. I'm sure, like with most LUEsers, we've had many many conversations so I wish I had a more clear memory of what our interactions have been.

I know who I really am, but I fear it is too late to actually be that person. I really don't want it to be though.
