I like a bunch of Zack Snyder's work but Watchmen is probably my favorite by a wide margin.

Most of the costume changes were for the better, which is a rare thing to say about a comic book movie.

Same. Although I saw the movie first so...

Granted, one of the things I disliked about the the original comic is the time they wasted on Tales from the Black Freighter -- which existed to pad out the miniseries.

They padded it out with lots of stuff. The final plan was convoluted too.

I think the ending made more sense for a movie. But the comic ending was better. And the comic in general is amazing. It uses panel-space in a lot of interesting ways.

It kinda failed in tone by glorifying heroic violence when the message was kind of that putting on a mask and beating people up doesn't make you a hero.

idk, I'm kinda split. From a narrative standpoint, the movie's ending made more sense. Both scenarios work from the idea that creating a new common threat can ease tensions between nations and get them to focus their energies elsewhere. However, by scapegoating Doc Manhattan, the movie is also sending a dire warning about the unintended consequences behind creating certain kinds of weapons.

And, honestly, even if tensions between nations were eased so the threat of nuclear warfare was off the table, if you didn't have a cautionary tale about superhumans going rogue the nations of the world *would* potentially design superhumans as a way of defending the planet and you might get an ultra powerful being who does turn against humanity. It's doubly important since the existence of new WMDs potentially threatens the planet since conflict will eventually erupt again anyway.... unless the world is (Naruto Shippuden spoilers, later arc) periodically attacked by an outsider, thus resetting the process; ie, Pain's plot

I don't think that was ever meant as the takeaway. It seemed to focus more on approaching superheroes as deeply flawed, somewhat realistic people (kinda minus Doc Manhattan, the only one with actual powers).

TBH my biggest issue with the movie was the casting for Ozymandias. Especially since everyone else was pretty spot-on.

Dr. Manhattan also could have had a deeper voice, but I can see why they went the route they did.

He didn't look or act anything like his character. And I had a really hard time picturing him as someone who trained himself to be borderline superhuman (to the point of being able to catch a bullet).
