Incredibly inept porting and localization by NISA aside, they've finallt gotten the game to a good state (for ps4 and switch at least). It should not be overlooked.

Great gameplay, cool concept of being stranded on an island and searching for survivors, jammin music, and some good actual difficulty (if you want it).

I hit ch4 last night and I'm having a blast.

just ignore the PC version tho

and you'll have to reconfigure the button layout since the default makes no goddamn sense. I have my own which is as good as I think it gets, which i can post if people are interested.

It's a very good game that is not getting the recognition it deserves due to NISA's unparalleled incompetence

When it comes to Falcom games as great as the Trails games are I would still take Ys any day of the week they have a certain energy to them that can't be matched and some of the best soundtracks in video games

just finished up Ys Seven for the first time earlier this week!
Will pick up Ys VIII for the PS4 or Switch sometime in the near future.

I've wanted to try this for a while, just waiting for a good sale.

i guess the start is a little slow, but things do pick up. exploration is fun (especially if you turn off the minimap). and if you just want to jump place to place, there's a well done fast travel option as well

I'm very anti-exploration which may have been the issue I had with the demo after just getting off Xanadu's corridors. I like guided experiences, the big open space was a bad sign for me.

Celceta > Origin > Oath > I & II

I played 7 first and it was a fine entry point. There were only vague mentions to Adol's past exploits, but nothing meaningful. The story itself was completely standalone, which to my understanding is how the other games are too (though I think I remember reading two of the other games are more closely related).

1+2 should always be played together and Origins is a good supplement to the events of those games

the rest are standalone with references and past characters showing up here and there

they're all pretty self contained iirc so you can jump in whenever

III: Wanderers from Ys (Turbo CD version; the SNES port had a better framerate though. Wouldn't surprise me if Genesis was the best overall but haven't gotten to that one.)

My laptop apparently isn't powerful enough for Ys Seven since it runs the opening movie at half-speed but with the audio at normal speed.
