I won a 23andMe kit from a raffle. Found it to be interesting, though I already knew I was British as hell considering my mom came over from the UK in the 70s and my father's family despite being in America since before the Revolution did immigrate over during the mid 1700s with a number of other Scottish families.

It's more interesting if you don't know essentially your entire history, but even then you can get surprises (ie. 4% of my DNA is from Central Asia, which are all the northern -stan countries).

idk if I used it wrong, but I ordered a thing of 23andMe, and when I sent it in, my results were inconclusive.

and when they sent me a replacement, I got the same result, so they just gave me a refund. it worked for my brother, though.

I'll probably try again in the future.

I did 23andme as part of my participation in a study when I was in college. It's cool. If you are interested in your genetic traits, it could be fun to do

I was paid to do it though so idk how I'd feel if I'd paid for it

My aunt did. Our very German family turned out to be 1/4 Scandinavian, 1/4 East European, and a smattering of Mediterranean and British. I theorized it was probably some 'Viking' ancestors, given that literally every single place was somewhere that had Norse colonies. Considering we can only trace our heritage to a random dude with two different names and three different wives from Lorraine France/Germany around the 1800's, it's pretty much just a theory I can't prove.

The idea of setting your ethnicity as percentages doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

We have the occasional person come into my work asking what we think of it, we try to keep our opinions to ourselves but it's hard to stay objective on the issue.

I would like to try it. My family name can only be traced back to 1851, when my great (x3) grandfather entered the US in San Francisco under what is presumed by the family to have been a false name.

There is also the possibility that I have children out there that I don't know about, in my younger days I was quite promiscuous and traveled frequently.

It largely matched what it should based on family genealogy.

27% Finnish
26% Swedish
24% German
8% Scottish
5% Iberian Peninsula
Trace amounts of other. Most surprising was 1% central Asian around the Stans and 3% Croatian (it only showed Eastern European but one of my great grandfathers we thought was part Croatian so this is just adding it up).

Family history claims that part of the Finnish is Sami. That part of the family came from Lapland so Sami made sense.

Given where Poland is located highly unlikely you are 100% polish in blood. That area has changed hands too many times for your DNA to only come from 1 location.
