I tip taxi drivers, but not uber drivers.

The whole idea about uber was not having to carry cash around and not having to tip. Now that they wiped out the taxi industry they want us to tip? Fuck them.

They spend so much on gas, insurance, and depreciation; one would have to be incredibly self centered and unappreciative not to tip an Uber driver. Basically the typical twenty something man-child.

As far as I'm aware, passengers have a rating, too. You're paying to uphold your reputation, probably. I've only used taxi services (in groups) during conventions so that's my basic understanding of that meta.

Ever talk to an Uber guy? Its usually freaking awkward. There's exceptions, but usually its a bad experience. Also, 95% of the small talkers get the directions wrong!

any that serves me deserves a tip for putting up with me.

i am not comfortable around people
i have allegies and sneeze everywhere
i feel drivers talk to me because theyre nervous of me
i feel like someone is watching me all the time ready to define the kinda person i am based on their observation
i am the silent type maybe borderline social disorder...

my first uber ride was from my parents house to the dealer because my car was in that dealer repair, about a 25min traffic drive towards the city. parents lived closer so i used the shuttle to take me there instead of where i lived back then

i wouldnt use uber at all if i had my ways but that day i needed a ride in a car cause public transportation scared me. like dont i need a bus card, which bus stop do i need, which buses do i take, wont it take like 2hrs to get where i need to go, i still have to walk to the dealer, its friggen hot today, people wont sit next to me so ill stand in the bus, i want to be comfortable...etc.

uber. install. make account. then immediately use uber. so, with everyone out of their way my brother was like uber there you dopehead! my brother says he ubers all the time. so my brother talked to me longer than anybody would have to install uber on my phone.

i bring my kindle cause i figured i can read during the trip... and its a barrier between me. anyways, poor girl. i tried to read but i was nervous. radio was low enough to hear but was low cause of courtesy for me. we didnt talk until the end of my trip. i tipped and thanked her for her time and putting up with me.

my brother calls to check up on me. probably realized that its me a driver deals with. i told him i tipped her for uber and he started yelling at me for tipping an uber driver. he concludes i cant go anywhere tipping drivers everywhere i go. he says i wasted money on that tip

so now he gets me an uber if i need it. then tells me not to tip. but i give a tip anyways cause i am me

You can make a living off Uber and not have tips.

What are you basing this off of

And it really depends on where you live

I'm in NJ so if you say that here you'll be quite the comedian

The minimum fare we can receive is $3.75. If you only do 2 minimum fare rides an hour that's below minimum wage ($8.60 in NJ)

This isn't my only job, but when I'm out there I'm working all the same

I agree with this. I dont expect tips as a driver. I quit my job and just started driving more hours because I was making more by driving than my other job. Now I make more money than I ever have.

Tips are just a little bonus. Nice to see, but I dont expect it. Some people are almost too generous, this one dude gave me a 20 dollar bill just for going to the gas station down the road and back to his house (fare was like $5 lol).

I also do UberEats. I've gotten more free meals than I could have imagined from it as well. You wouldnt believe how many people order food to their gated apartment complex and don't answer the phone to let me in, or dont tell me which apartment number they're in. After 5 minutes of no answering our app let's us cancel the order, so we still get paid and keep the food. Happens more often than you'd think.

Yeah, cost of living in BR is pretty low compared to other metro areas. But I also drive a lot of hours, but I make about $1k a week. If you're good at it, you know how to get long rides more frequently (I look up arrival times at the airport, those are usually $20-$25 a pop), then I know when the casinos are busy, when are where the bars are popping (usually get surges near closing time).

If you ride around aimlessly, then yeah you wont be successful. Do a little research into your area and you'd be surprised.

I've been driving for almost 3 years and even still, there's no guarantees in a place like Jersey.

Airport rides can be lengthy affairs or just nearby drop-offs in Essex County. Too many fucking NYC attempts and those are typically huge wastes of time.

Back in 2015-2016 it was easy to just drive around all day. Nowadays it can easily just be a wash.

I heard one horror story of a guy taking 12 hours to make $84. That's why tips should always be in the equation.

They account for less than 10% of my weekly earnings but they're always nicer to receive than an enthusiastic "5 stars!" comment.

A 5 star experience is a top tier performance. Getting me from Point A to Point B without verbally assaulting me is not worth 5 stars.

No, 5 stars just means that not gonna be at risk of being removed from the platform; anything under 4.5 and you're at risk. It's a shitty system partially because it skews the entire purpose of a 5 star system; I'd typically give 4* in any other situation too.

Maybe I should limit my 5* ratings to those who tip it wouldn't make much of a difference in who gets picked up but it would help others know about who the tippers are
