I found a slightly better quality version (below), but it may contain small spoilers from the series as it's the special ED used for the final episode of the anime. It's also significantly more exciting though, so if you have no interest in watching the anime ever, you should check it out.

Next up is one I'm certain both Ermine and I have fond memories of since he admitted to watching Inu Yasha (something I was unaware of or I would've nominated this for the bonus points instead of what I ended up nominating):

But back to the roughly one and a half minute version, it's got everything (except that opening instrumental) the full version has condensed into one neat little package of awesome. The blend of ancient instruments but with modern direction is a combination I love and you'll witness a few more times when I post a couple other favorite EDs. As for the visuals this ED's got a beautiful pallet featuring gorgeous sunsets and cameos from gorgeous Sesshomarus. What more could you ask for? A few action shots, which are kind of rare for EDs? Check. All major characters receiving focus instead of just the main two? Check, even if some of the focus is very brief. A beautifully twisted dark ending? Oh my god check!

This is probably my 3rd favorite ED if I absolutely had to rank them, but man...

Speaking of excelling at combining ancient instruments with a modern style to create something new altogether, I present:

Fuhen - Rin' - Samurai 7 ED

While the visuals aren't spectacular Rin's Fuhen (which translates to "ubiquitous") gives me an eargasm every time. Gaaah... The full version of this was my go-to song when I needed to relax until a similar song with a similar theme replaced it. Ermine you're familiar with this as well. I'll give you three hints: 1) It's the end credit sequence for a movie we've watched for one of our gauntlet ranking projects 2) It's not anime, though it is inspired by the Far East 3) IT'S FRIGGIN' AWESOME, okay actual 3) The lyrics feature references to a certain instrument that don't match the actual instruments used

On the opposite end of the spectrum (yet no less awesome), here's the incredibly calming Hiru no Tsuki. It's so surreal and simplistic in its otherworldy mellow instrumentals and melody.

Gravity - Maaya Sakamoto - Wolf's Rain ED

It's so calming and simplistic but the chilling vocals give way to feelings you never thought you'd have about a cartoon's ending. Though obviously Sailor Moon, Card Captor Sakura, and Pokemon all had opening themes sung in my native language, I believe Wolf's Rain was the first I'd ever seen that had Engrish in its ending (I think Sailor Moon's American ED was just a slightly remixed version of its OP), although it's not really fair to call it that. It's clearly not Sakamoto-san's first language, but the song is still hauntingly beautiful especially when juxtaposed with Kiba running slow-mo in front of the setting sun and moon.

What the vocalist lacks in technical skill- be that in lyric choice, translation, or ability to actually sing- he more than makes up for in passion! ... Okay fine this one is carried almost entirely by its background music, but that doesn't make it much less amazing. I mean listen to that flute solo. So damned great! I'm pretty sure this is a specific kind of flute used a lot in eastern music, but if you asked me to name the instrument I'd be at a complete loss.

I love soft rock. I love alternative. I don't love metal, but man the blend of that strong opening with the much softer vocals and visuals right after is such a great juxtaposition that I'm seriously considering changing my viewpoint on that.

I'm not gonna bother posting it because I'm sure Ermine has already lost interest in this entry, but the full version of this song features my favorite guitar solo ever! As for the anime this ED perfectly evokes memories of Rin's struggle with spoilers: immortality. She's Immortal and she's constantly hunted for her "gift" which she of course sees only as a curse. The visuals are equally depressing and encouraging as she breaks free of what she thinks is holding her back. I really liked this anime a lot. Very underrated.

Seasons Die One After Another - Amazarashi - Tokyo Ghoul Root A ED

To understand why I love this one so much requires a comparison. The visuals paired with this song are unique to each individual episode (unfortunately the one Funimation has chosen to promote here is not among my favorites, but more on that later), but they all share a similar theme. Each outro art is dynamic, bleeding into several images and they're all made with possibly simulated water color paint, but it looks very real to me. Water color is a medium I love but could never master myself so the imagery here evokes a wistful feeling within me. And the song? Gorgeous.

IMO it's the second best song from Tokyo Ghoul after Glassy Sky. That's right, I think it beats the pants off Unravel Ghoul so come at me! Amazarashi, more like AMAZING. There is so much passion in his delivery and if you actually look up the lyrics it's quite thoughtful and sad in the best way. Anyway here's a link to all the different outros:

Alright so I know that's kind of cheating, but I already mentioned that Inu Yasha has some of the greatest EDs of all time. The Final Act is no exception, and the only reason ED 1 (With You) isn't sitting right up here with Diamond and Down the Distant Road is because the opening vocal intro is so incredibly cringey ee-ee EE-ee. They're both awesome for different reasons.

Just check out the production value for Diamond. I mean the video is incredible look at the effects of the snowflakes and tell me they're not amazing. No seriously, tell me so I can verify you're a liar. That high definition. You can tell after that break Inuyasha went all out and Rumiko was not going to send her magnum opus off with a whimper. The song is nice and peaceful too and every character gets their due focus. As for the final ED, it's just the culmination of several years of effort and build up and it's beautiful. It's the perfect song choice and does the entire series justice.

Okay now this one is super mega cheating, but see my justification above. I tried to pick my second favorite ED from the original Inu Yasha, but I just couldn't. 1-4 are all so solid and each one has something it does better than the other 3. My Will has the nostalgia and unique ferris wheel display, Dearest has the emotional pull, Every Heart has such soothing vocals, and Fukai Mori has ITS ENTIRE FOCUS ON SESSHOMARU! Yep, I refuse to pick and you can't make me.

if you know much about my anime preferences (which you might if you ever see my once-in-a-blue-moon posts), you may know I'm oddly partial towards really obscure cgdct series. I'm not sure what compelled me to try out last year's spinoff to a gacha game I didn't know a damn thing about at the time, Monster Sonic... but it turned out to be one of my personal favourites that year (partially because I liked how they adapted shounen-as-heck fantasy game mechanics into idol anime gimmicks, but also because of how cute I found the MC D'Artagnyan to be).

Composed by Hidekazu Tanaka, who you may know for a ton of other good anime OP songs (all the Nyaruko-san openings, an excessive number of songs in Wake Up Girls, iM@S and Aikatsu, and Hanayamata, Anne Happy, Scorching Ping Pong Girls and Renai Bouken's OPs...), this ED is a rare sight in modern anime (especially one that is also a multimedia idol project) in that it doesn't have a full-length version, which is... pretty disheartening.

well, western shows have to shave off every possible second for commercials and cut/fast forward through credits, or the writers feel that any second with a scene or something crammed into it is a waste of time so they don't have op or eds.

and animu op/eds are often sung by the vas, selling them as singles or having concert events or whatever to promote their careers in addition to shilling the series.
