having a car at all is pretty much the cutoff for being poor. Think about it. Imagine that all public transit is cut off 'cuz the alt+left got all pissy about an UBER ride or something.

If you don't have a car... you have died. You can't work, you can't get food, you can't anything

Exactly why buy new and pay out the butt for it when you could get used and save a bunch. My last car I got was a used car, it was a 2013 and I got it in Dec of 2013. Guy had it like 8 months I think at most and around 11k miles. But got it for 7-8k less than new (before taxes fees etc) So I'd say that's a win. And if saving money on a still same year car is "poor" rather than just smart meh that's on you.

No I bought a 2006 Honda Accord a couple of years ago. Sure, it's not flashy, but damn, it's a money saver.

All the money I don't spend on a car note goes to basic upkeep and necessary repairs. I'll never lease a car. It's an endless debt trap.

I wouldn't say buying new or used means a person is poor. What would mean a person is poor is if they own a run down piece of junk clunker that is falling apart. Nobody chooses to own a clunker. People who have a clunker simply cannot afford a better used car.

2008 is not that old at all. If you take good care of a car, it can last a lot longer than 10 years and still be in great shape.

Assuming you drive 10,000 miles per year, then 10 years would be 100,000 miles. That's not bad mileage on a car at all.

Thats completely dependent on where you live and your job, though. People dont want to be drenched in sweat in the summer and have to ride through ice and snow in the winter in sub zero temperatures. Plus some people work too far from home for that to be practical.

I think it depends on how lucky you get, though. I seen it where people have gotten a used car, had it check out and everything, and it works fine for like 2 years. Then have it start breaking down here and there and they end up spending a lot to get it fix. Whether it's a lot at one time, which would suck. Or a lot over time making it(for a short while) cost more than a new car would. That being said, you could also be pretty lucky to have a car that still runs perfectly after many years, even though it's used.

Public transit sucks anyway.
Doesn't go out to the suburbs, takes way too long to get anywhere, and completely disappears at night.
