@southcoast09
care to try defend trump on this?

The EPA wouldn't allow the product to be used if it was unsafe. Clearly, these use cases would not impact anyone.

Asbestos is unsafe, period.

I'm pretty sure it would be barred if it did not have some safe applications.

Now we know who was raised in an asbestos room eating lead paint chips

Im sorry but taking an extreme stance on either side shows a lack of understanding. Asbestos is dangerous and therefore should be handled carefully, but it exists for a reason.

Yes it exists because it is an outdated obsolete and dangerous tech.

Stop trying your pc game philos hippos.

My question is, who the hell lobbied for this shit anyways? The moment a sane president gets back into office, I guarantee you the first thing their EPA does is repeal this brazenly dangerous rule. So thats 2-6 years tops.

Not gonna read through all of this, but have we talked about how Trump believes the negative impacts of asbestos are made up by the mafia?

https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/is-epa-allowing-asbestos-products/
President Trump has spoken on the topic of asbestos prior to taking office. In his 1997 book The Art of the Comeback, he argued that the chemical is actually safe once applied, and suggested that the link to health problems was manufactured by the mob-connected companies that perform asbestos removal from buildings:

I believe that the movement against asbestos was led by the mob, because it was often mob-related companies that would do the asbestos removal. Great pressure was put on politicians, and as usual, the politicians relented.

I see no issue with this. There are some very fine buildings that contain asbestos.

Like, I get being a parody account for shits and giggles, but when it comes to literal life and death subjects like getting cancer from asbestos, don't you feel even a smidge bad trolling in favor of it?

Is he on the wrong side though?

Yes. I mean, if you're trolling to get your jollies off based off of something like MORE asbestos becoming the norm so MORE people get cancer.....

You know those mesothelioma commercials you see on TV all the time?

that's caused by Asbestos.

Suing people who've used asbestos in construction is such a lucrative job that there are lawyers who literally don't do anything except mesothelioma cases.

Sorry, but asbestos does not exist because it's dangerous. That's the opposite reason. It exists because it prevents bad things from happening. And 40 years later we have learned A LOT about how to handle it and manufacture it so that people don't get sick. We didn't know and thus didn't follow safer procedures in the past which is why people are still getting sick today (the illness doesn't occur overnight). That and the EPA fucked up by concluding that asbestos should be removed from every single building no matter what, so construction crews were going from building to building across the entire US and stirring that shit up and exposing more people to it, even though the overwhelmingly vast majority of cases the people living in those buildings were at no risk of contracting an illness. It's been concluded that that was a really bad idea.

Here's the thing, though - there's far more than enough evidence to deduce that we DID know that shit was bad, but we used it anyway. It's literally why people who used it are sued on the daily.

I'm more than a little curious to know what the intended new uses might be.

Most people's extent of their knowledge on asbestos is that it's bad. That's it. Black and white issue in their mind.

Not to say that it isn't harmful, not to say I know much about it either, but obviously asbestos isn't all bad by definition if it's used in a necessary stage of manufacturing processes for products and goods that people use.

It's not something that should be around people without proper safety equipment and training. Like, say, construction of commercial buildings.

It's an extremely hazardous chemical like elemental fluorine and you shouldn't use it anywhere that it isn't absolutely necessary in which case we're already using it since it's absolutely necessary to be used in the places where it's being used.

That's like saying "sharp things are bad because they injure and kill people". It's ignoring the fact that sharp things can be used to our benefit. Asbestos prevents fires. That much I know is true. Is it so hard to see why preventing fires is a benefit?

So you would happily give peoplw cancer to prevent a fire? Actually look up the sheer number of people affected by it before defending it. In the case of asbestos the ends do not justify the means.

That's like saying you can't get lead poisoning if you're in a vacuum with it. True but you'd die from lack of oxygen almost immediately so that's irrelevant.

Yeah and you're not going to get flesh eating bacteria as long as that culture dish full of it that is right next to where you're sitting stays undisturbed and nobody touches it or does anything to it.

I know this is just anecdotal, but I've lived in a house that had asbestos inside the wall or something like that (not exposed unless there was a fire or a hole I'd imagine). I lived here since I was less than 1 y/o my whole life for the most part (only about a year or so other places) for at least 30 years. I mean you could say I'm not a good case for asbestos being benign, but I'm doing okay.
