Asbestos is only dangerous when it can go airborne or otherwise is disturbed. I wouldn't be shocked if there are safe applications in industry, but I can't imagine any reason consumer asbestos products should ever exist again. They aren't going to go back to putting the stuff in buildings, surely, so what do they want to do with it?
