1. your clothes should fit slim, but not tight. do not wear baggy clothes!
2. hem your pants so they just barely touch the top of your shoes
3. don't wear running shoes! Classic sneakers are fine in casual situations, but most of the time you should be wearing a good pair of dress shoes
4. no brand logos or graphics should be visible on your clothing
5. wear a tailored sportcoat/blazer as often as possible
6. wear a classic watch
7. don't wear black-stick to navy and shades of grey as a substitute

posts about socks and jeans will be made separately at some point in the future

stop wearing band shirts and cut your goddamn hair. long hair does not look good on guys. I know you're scared that short hair will look shit and not suit you, but you will look 1000000x better if you cut your greasy, disgusting shoulder length hair.

are you trying to tell me that there aren't a ton of topics on this board asking for fashion advice? because i see it a ton. same for girl advice. absolutely bizarre to say it "isn't helping anyone" when it's all this board talks about. clothes and girls account for the majority of the topics here

Naw I think the people here are just looking to shit on anyone and everyone sometimes. Don't take it personally, 80% of my topics end up with at least one or two responses like the ones ITT, but damn it was like almost every single response you got here was someone just ripping into you. Lol I mean that dude even said you had a mental health issues because you gave advice on how to dress nicely. Some people took offense as if you were telling them they were wrong for dressing normally. So ridiculous.

highly depends on what I'm doing. Just casually hanging out around the house with family or friends? Jeans or shorts, t shirt, boots or sneakers, maybe flip flops if it's a really lazy day. No jewelry, ever. Jewelry is fucking dumb and one of the most overpriced retail items you can buy. I dress professionally for work or if I have to meet someone for something work-related.

sounds like you mostly disagree on the sportcoat and watch. sportcoats are designed to make you look more physically appealing. if you get an unconstructed one with minimal lining, i frequently just throw that on over a henley and jeans with dress shoes for going out to the bar. it makes you look 100x sharper

don't buy overpriced watches? the watches i buy are in the 300-500 range and i can tell you exactly why they are worth that much (accurate self winding automatic movement, water resistance, sapphire crystal, hacking and hand winding, etc). a good watch adds a ton to your looks. it's really the only piece of jewelry men can pull off, so it's a shame to not take advantage of that. and when im in meetings, it's super unprofessional to pull out your phone to look at the time, so the watch comes in handy.

Not all guys dont take care of their long hair. Women tell me they pay $200-300 to get my hair style for two or three days. Its whether or not you take care of it.

people often object to dress shoes because they've never actually owned a good pair. i get my custom designed in spain and imported for $500.

what people don't realize is that their feet are actually 3 dimensions (length, width and height), whereas most shoes are sold in 1 dimension (length). nail down your size in all 3 dimensions (hint: pick a "last", or shoe shape that fits you well), make sure the shoe has a footbed that actually molds to the shape of your feet over time, and that the shoe is goodyear welted with full grain leather that will last a lifetime, and it will feel like you're wearing armor. i hardly ever wear anything else now unless it's a short errand.

i never said anyone needed to look like an adult, everyone leads different lifestyles, this topic is for those who do but have no idea how to do it.

reasons you in particular would possibly want to look like an adult? let's face it, looks matter, and first impressions matter. a huge factor of that (even if subconsciously) is how you dress. even if you're not meeting new people or in a position at work where you need to, i'm sure your wife wouldn't object if you attempted to be more aesthetically pleasing. marriages still take work, looking attractive for your partner is part of that.

and please don't try and bring up being married to a beautiful woman, your cooking job, or a home as validation for a life well lived. i'm glad you enjoy those, but everyone wants different things out of life. when i hear those 3 things, all i think are: you can only have sex with 1 woman, you have a career that contributes minimally to the world, and you're tied down to 1 location. your life would be my nightmare. not judging you for wanting it, i can semi see the appeal for certain people, but don't try to gloat like you've accomplished all there is to do in life.

no way am I spending $500 on a pair of shoes.

My wife is into guys who wear band shirts, jeans (not with horrid holes in them though), and is drawing me a sleeve that I'm getting when she is done. Trust me, she would not want me to dress like this.

My purpose for bringing those things up was to say that I don't need to 1) impress women (not that my type of girl would even want to talk to a guy that dresses like this in the first place) 2) get a job that I enjoy and can last me until retirement, or 3) look "adult" to impress a potential landlord or to get a loan for a home.

then i guess this topic just isnt for you. tons of people don't need to "dress like an adult". drug dealers, rock stars, etc

if you've figured out a lifestyle you like that doesn't require it cool. this topic is aimed at those who do, which i would wager is the majority of people

lacoste! small logos like lacoste and original penguin (the penguin) seem grandfathered in for some reason. not my thing, but at least it's not large and obtrusive
