I will always use self checkout, unless I have alcohol, or something they need to verify my age. Even if I have a full cart, i am usually faster than the actual cashiers. Fortunately there are a few stores in my area that shut down cashier operated ones at a certain time, and become all self checkouts.

I'm not saying you're not fast or anything. But it would probably be faster with a manned register with a full cart because a cashier can start scanning stuff while you're putting stuff on the conveyor belt. So, I think with a full cart, it would be much faster with a cashier just because of multitasking. Not to mention, as soon as you're done stacking stuff on the belt, you can start taking the full bags... Where as you would be taking stuff out, scanning, and bagging by yourself otherwise. Now, with two people, it would be a little faster. And with three, maybe faster than the cashier. But I think it wouldn't be as fast if you were by yourself.

Not really, most of the self checkouts don't have conveyors. All you do is go straight from the cart to the bags. There really is no excess time for using the self checkout. Staging things is unnecessary. Even with a full cart, I would tend to finish before a cashier

The actual answer is that its easier to steal small things when you can forget to scan it before putting it in your bag.

Yeah. I know that most of them don't have conveyor belts. When I said conveyor belt, I meant the manned stations. What I mean is instead of you scanning and bagging the items, you can have someone do that while you are taking them out of the cart. In a full cart situation. Then, after you are done taking them out, you can start taking the bags. Basically, multiple things getting done at once instead of you taking some stuff out, scanning, and bagging them yourself. It's like using teamwork. Unless you have multiple people or not a lot of items, I don't see how self-checkout can be faster. I've seen people who worked at the store who still took time to bag their items. It's basically faster because you have multiple people working on different things at the same time instead of one person doing it all...

I get what you are saying, but it never works that way for me. Self checkout I can bag items the way I want. Even if I get a good cashier, the amount of time saved is a matter of seconds. I would prefer the convenience and guaranteed speed of doing it myself, over having someone else do it. Besides some stores have scanners now, you can scan them directly in the cart if you want.

tbh, today I ran into ass clowns going into the self-check with a full cart and it was pretty damn annoying.

I guess you're just insanely fast at it. IDK. I honestly don't see how, though...

And I'm not saying that to be a douche. I just don't see how one person doing everything is faster than multiple people focusing on less. And basically being able to handle more things at once a little easier. Like how at a United I go to, it's faster to have a cashier who is ringing while another person bags than it is for the cashier to ring and bag.

There should be a 50 cent surcharge for using the traditional registers.

No one has explained why a person with a full cart would bypass empty manned registers to wait in line for a self-checkout register to open up.

Maybe they don't want to talk to anyone.
Maybe they are embarrassed about something they're buying.
Maybe they're using a stolen credit card.
Maybe they're using their sugar mama/daddies credit card and are embarrassed about it.
Maybe they didn't take a shower or are coming right from work and they feel funky.
Maybe you should mind your own business. Seriously who cares...I don't think that I'd even take notice if someone did that.

While I can't say I fully agree, I do notice. I try to avoid Self Checkout as much as possible, but I have used it multiple times. And it does suck when you see someone with a full cart, or even two full carts, or stuff. And it does take forever sometimes...

If I thought I was smarter than everyone, I would know why an adult capable of leaving their house would do such a thing.

But kudos to you for maintaining civility, NOT!

Adults do things they don't like because they have to, in this case being outside and talking to strangers is disliked.
