It is a livable wage, if you weren't stupid enough to have three or four kids first.

Minimum wage should be a liveable wage. The problem is, every time minimum wage goes up, the cost of living goes up even more, and thus, people on minimum wage are worse off. Additionally, as much as they might demand it, not everyone who was previously slightly above minimum wage will get a payrise to stay above it, meaning there are now more people at that bottom line - a bottom line that's now worse than it was before.

Work on reducing the cost of living. Do I know exactly how to achieve that? No. But that's going to achieve more than just saying "oh hey, instead of you getting $9 when you need $10 to live, you're now getting $10 when you need $12 to live".

When I started my career in nursing I worked for minimum wage the first 2 months until I got the training and a $1 raise.

In a nursing home I did quite a bit.

I think TC thinks minimum wage workers are employed at retail stores, gas stations, and fast food establishments only.

You seem to be suggesting that the cost of living is rising in large part due to minimum wage increases, and you couldnt be more wrong. There is little to no correlation between the two.

Rent should only be a third of your income. Where I live, a one bedroom apartment in the bad part of town is over $500/month. That's close to half your yearly income.

(Also, that 15k/year is pre-taxes and assumes you're getting 40 hours a week, which most minimum wage jobs don't give).

also keep in mind that most companies don't give full time work. they keep workers part time so they don't have to give employment benefits

then people need to work like 3 jobs just to get almost 40 hours a week

Used to work a warehouse house and busted my ass as well. Now I push papers all day and get paid more than double what I used to sitting on my ass all day than when I was busting my ass. I will never in a million years understand how the hard workers get paid less than the paper pushers. All I do is walk around every once in a while to make sure things are going smoothly, set up interviews, make the schedules and that's it.
