Kadyn and Zyler still have little understanding of gender, according to their parents, but have started to pick up on it. One day recently, Zyler asked Julia what she and he mean.

Since we've tried to avoid really getting into gender until they're old enough to understand it, I answered that he and she are pronouns and you use them to make sentences simpler, so instead of saying someone's name over and over in the sentence, you'll say he or she or they instead, she said, and Zyler got distracted after that and moved on.

This just....blew my mind.

Do these kinds of people not understand that "gender confusion" is a super small subset of people? The grand majority of people born into this world are going to be "normal." If their children do develop as such, then support them in everything they want to do. If not, congratulations, you have the standard child most people will have.

You don't know anything about my genetics. Literally I don't know anything about my genetics. I will know some stuff about them in 2-4 weeks, assuming that DNA thing gives the results in the amount of time it is saying it will. Why not hold off on judgment until then instead of being rude?

I don't think the concept of gender is what's psychologically traumatizing, I think it's the inability for society, and especially for families, to accept someone that doesn't fit "conventional gender norms". I would totally raise my child with "traditional" gender titling but if it got to a point where he or she felt that that was inappropriate and identified as another gender then I would totally 100% be on board and supportive of that.

The challenge then comes from fostering that sort of trusting environment within the family unit where your child feels close enough to you to open up about stuff like that.

Not that I plan to have kids anyway, but if I did, they'd be told they're whatever they biologically are and referred to with those pronouns, until / unless they turn out to have actual gender dysphoria and decide they want to transition - if that happens, it will be fully respected. (Transtrender crap will not.)
