Board 8 > What is Board 8's "definitive ranking" of the site contests?

Curious what you guys would say. I'd think L-Block and the 2002 one with the fabled Mario vs. Crono match would be toward the top for a lot of people. That said, I wasn't here in 2002 - many of us weren't! Hell, there are users on this board that weren't even born when that match happened.

Obviously the newer stuff is toward the bottom. Did this "Best Year in Gaming" thing even happen or are we just pretending it didn't since it didn't even make the B8 Wiki? And before that, we had two toxic messes...

i don't have an exact ranking but basically all the best contests were 1v1 characters or games with everything allowed. the only good spinoff being GotD, and the only ones that weren't that great being 04 and 06 characters.

so that's 02, 03, 05, CBVIII for characters
04, GotD, 15 for games

Hard to think of a favorite, because they all have things I liked and disliked about them. 2010 is probably my fav because of the 'Zard's run, but Missingno. losing because 12h night battle sucked.

Here, we weren't all that happy with the invaders coming to the board just to laugh in our faces, though it was tame compared to the 2013 contest.

I hope this next one is a good ol' 64-entrant, 1v1 character battle with one 24-hour match a day. It's better when it's not rushed and there's no "gimmick" to it - it's just straight up characters or games.

I can see that list being semi-accurate. Disagree with Fall 2015 (that's a middle tier one) and Summer 2013 would be second to last.

I miss the days when we got an annual contest. We don't need "creative ideas" - we just need contests.

2002: Wasn't on GFAQs yet, but Sonic losing to Samus would have made it bad to me.
2003: Weak performance from Nintendo
2004G: Liked Melee's run, and Halo losing. I wanted OoT to beat FF7 though.
2004C: Boring SSF fest.
2005V: lol get out of the bracket seph contest
2005C: Decent until Sonic lost to MM. We were so close to a Mario vs Sonic final! Also no close matches.
2006S: Meh
2006C: Thank god Samus didn't lose to Tifa; but overall boring.
2007: 4-ways are bad, but this one at at least funny.
2008: Ugh. At least 2007 was amusing.
2009: Better than the previous two contests, but I still don't like 4-ways.
2010C: My overall fav, but 12h matches suck.
2010G: MM doesn't feel like GotD, but neither was Brawl.
2011: Bad idea. Tag teams aren't good.
2013: Draven + lower vote totals + 3-way makes this weak.
2015: Lower vote totals allowed a lame rally to snowball out of control. I'm not against rallies; but it honestly only worked because of bad vote totals.
2017: Boo.

Tbf I was one of said invaders, though I was here because Undertale is genuinely my #1 game of all time.

I really do hope we get a normal contest this year since that will actually be new to me.

I don't remember you being a pest the way some of the others were. And if you were... well you've become one of us, so I'm all good with that!

My first contest was the 2006 characters one where there were two brackets, one for the guys and one for the girls. I enjoyed it and stuck around because I liked the board... even if I almost got run off because I didn't know what the Jay Solano in-joke was, lulz
