Like drawing, or RPG Maker stuff, or even RPing, or Game Maker, or LittleBigPlanet, but I have absolutely no imagination or creativity or talent. I can't even do anything with that stupid Manga Maker thing. (It's why I hate looking at fanart, or playing other RPG Maker games, or the top-rated levels on LittleBigPlanet.)

Takes practice.

Cant expect to pick up a hobby and be a god, and even after doing it for awhile there are still shortcomings. If you find it enjoyable do it for yourself and screw impressing everyone else.

Start with something small.
I think little big planet is good for starting "small projects"
You can:
-make your own music
-add your own pictures (assuming you got that PS camera)
-define the physics to your liking. You can make a 2D pinball table to a 2D side scrolling shoot em up if you manage to get that elaborate.

I think the key is not worrying about the quality of your work when you start out making art. Just try to have fun, and skill and confidence will come with time. You're probably gonna produce tons of crap and thats ok

You shouldn't view your creative work as "good" or "bad." That mindset probably holds a lot of people back from expressing themselves. Just have fun with it.

Yeah I agree with all the people here. You need to practice. Don't be afraid of making something that is shit. It will be shit. Finish it anyway. It's from making a lot of shit that you develop talent.

If anyone can just design awesome stuff from the get go then those architect designers wouldnt get paid so much.

And yeah I get your feeling. I always like to build nice stuff on minecraft. But most of the time just end up copying other peoples work on youtube or give up.

Building, designing, creating nice things take a lot of practice, time and trial and error.

Good shit. I'm impressed.

I cartoon mostly, but have been working in pencil lately because my favorite medium is copic. I'll post some in a bit.

This! It pisses me off when people moan that they tried drawing/writing/painting/whatever but gave up because they thought their work was rubbish. Of course your early stuff will be, that's just part of any creative journey.

Not talking about just you in particular but why is the goal always to be "good" at the particular activity? That's putting a lot of unnecessary pressure on something that should be about having fun and expressing yourself. Like TC says he wants to do creative things but he doesn't because he's quote unquote bad at it. That's terrible.

Re: Practice: I honestly do believe that there is a level of "talent" or whatever you wanna call it that you're either born with, or you're not. Not everyone is born with the same mind. And doing it only for yourself is fine to an extent, but it's not going to be that way forever, no matter who you are, or what you're doing. All of that said, I just might open up RMMV and fuck around in it for a bit...

Yeah LBP2, you can make your own music. But I feel there is a ton of work that goes into making just one LBP level, and it might not even be that good. I could give it another shot, but what's the point if it ends up bad? Also Pinball?? That's genius! I never would have thought of that! This is what I mean. ;_; (Lack of creativity/imagination.) The most elaborate I got was a side-scrolling tank shooter similar to Blaster Master.

I've had one or two levels actually end up with something like 30 Stars. Out of something like, 15 levels, I wouldn't consider that a massive success, though.

By the way, other games with creative things that I utterly fail at are the Sims series, Cities Skylines/SimCIty 4, or Animal Crossing... I have no fashion sense for either Sims or AC, my houses in Sims games are shit, and my towns in Cities Skylines and Animal Crossing look terrible.

All these things trigger some stupid impulse within me that make me think, "We could do stuff with this! Let's edit/design/make something!" But it's nothing compared to what other people could create.

Also, there's a shitload of replies since I started writing this. I will debate that I don't believe if everyone just practiced, that everyone could have an equal level of talent, or imagination. I don't think any amount of practice is going to give me the same ability as others. BTW, this topic was partially inspired because I tried doing some RPing an hour or two ago in a chat room, and I was so fucking abysmal at it that I pretty much scared all 3 people away. _ (Kind of got me thinking about pen & paper RPGs, and how fun those look, but I'd be shit at those, too.)

Regardless, it has kinda encouraged me to open RMMV. I'm in the mood for some turn-based RPG making. I feel ashamed to do it, though.

And like I noted for the constantly struggling. Penciling I'm so used to cartooning and rigid outlines I find it very hard to sketch without highlighting features. Which is something I have to be aware. For cartooning I need to work on hands, and foreshortening but my color is very fluid and I think its unique at the least.

Honestly if I ever did make it into a career I'd probably hate it and it would suck any joy I had to begin with. So yes there is a doing it for yourself aspect at least for myself..

I agree to a certain extent on the talent. But I'm bi polar depressive..and theres days I literally cant draw a single line (I'm not exagerrating). But I've learned enough to draw okay on days where my mood is inconsistent, and can actually tell my state of mind by the look and feel of said sketch. So it is possible to teach yourself things. I want to get on a level where I can draw despite my mood, but I know that might not be a reality.

The best way to find inspiration imo, is to start off looking up stuff you like. For me, I like pinball and stuff like "pinball dreams" on the SNES led me to come up with my own designs.

I couldn't fit in my post but dont let the role play discourage you.

Pen and paper RPGs are about finding the right play group. Some peoples idea of fun is different than others. Same can be said for games like Magic The Gathering. Some players take things way too seriously.

the people that are really good at something artistic have put in a lot of time to master it. there are 0 exceptions to this: there are no people who get really good without practice, and there are no people who practice a lot and don't get good.

a good teacher can help to guide you, but ultimately the purpose of a teacher is to make themselves obsolete

Yeah I'm just trying to relieve that pressure. To assure people that it's ok to make shit, everyone does that.
