First 2 games are great, story wise.
Especially MGS2 with overall messaage.
3 is pure fanservice but good enough.
4 is where it starts going downwards.
V is pure garbage.

It did in 1998.

Then MGS2 happened and Kojima screwed it all up on purpose to make a point and to deliberately sabotage the future of the series. Which would have been ok, except Konami made him try his hardest to reconcile it anyway.

5 had a chance to redeem it but dropped the ball

1 is a pretty fun spy movie kind of thing with a good message

2 is a deconstruction that was featured in the Smithsonian for its use of postmodern elements

3 is simpler but still is an interesting game with cool metaphor use

4 is about how tired it is at that point

V tries to be better than a 'game story' but ironically suffers from gameplay related pacing issues that make whatever Kojimas trying to say very obscured

I've never been interested in stealth games but I play MGS for the story. So there's that.

No, way too convoluted and not even that interesting if you do get some of it.

For the most part, these. I did think V had a decent plot, but it's presentation was horrendous.
