Went to a new place, the people were really friendly and I wouldn't say they did a bad job but it could be a little cleaner around the edges. They did the hot cream + straight razor shave on the neck and around the ears so I mean it's not like they were rushing or anything.

Is that how haircuts normally are?

I've tried many different places. Also I *think* it might be "heavier" (faded lower) on one side than the other but my wife says I'm too critical about things like that so maybe not.

I pay $40 and I thought that was expensive. The main reasons I keep going there are because she's been a friend of my family since I was a little kid, and I have pretty bad psoriasis on my scalp and she knows how to deal with it without scraping the shit out of my scalp with the comb.

Nah I just threw a number out there. I've had $35 haircuts that were absolute garbage tbh.

My old black roommate had a falling out with his barber and asked me to cut his hair one time. The main difference is you gotta go with the grain with black hair, with white people you can go against the grain but you'll scalp a black guy with that technique.

But she has a job now so I'm not going to be like "oh hey honey I know you were working all day WANT TO GO CUT MY HAIR".

My wife has been cutting mine for the last year or so. She learned the basics from her mom who's a former hairstylist then went from there. As you said, it takes longer but she does a better job than if I went somewhere plus it's free.
