Im finding myself less and less willing to put loads of time into games, which is why I dont like unlocking vital content as much as I used to, at least in games that arent primarily single player. The appeal of a game that isnt fun right away* is fading to me.

Toxic SmashFAQs users who probably arent even as old as me take that to mean Im an entitled baby for some reason.

*If you need examples, Ristar and DKC2 are the best ones that come to mind

Gaming is way more fun than anything else to me. I just play less now because I have more responsibilities. The perfect life would be having zero human interaction and never having to work so I could play games for 16 hours a day if I so please.

Yeah, something tells me my yearly playthroughs of OOT and Yoshi's Island won't stop anytime soon. And I could never give up the Myst series. But it's just weird - I wasn't expecting it to be so sudden, if this really is the great "winding down" for me.

It was after having a massive fuckup while playing a romhack of one of the Pokemon Gen III remakes which made me stop playing entirely. Basically, I invested too many hours into one team member, only to realize it had the wrong ability and was effectively worthless. I deleted my save file immediately after seeing that. At first I was just annoyed at how much time I had wasted, but ever since then I've been unable to justify picking any other game up either. It's just this really intense feeling of, what's the point?

There are still games I really want to play/finish, more for their stories and concepts than anything. Talos Principle, Last Day of June (I have to play that one, considering Steven Wilson's connection to it), etc.

Nope, I have more hobbies not yes but I still love gaming and until it gets boring or stops being fun I do not see myself stopping anytime soon.

Have less time but I make the best of the time I do have so that its very worth it when I do play. Kinda sucks when I want to go shooting at the range and play a game but I manage.

Dunno, for me every TV show of a genre is more or less exactly the same to where I can predict what the next episode is going to be so accurately that it's not even fun to watch any more. Same for movies.

I don't like to call it 'maturing/growing up.' That makes it sound like video games are for kids. The reality is that people just have kids, or relationships, or haven't gotten a real job and are working on that so they have to sacrifice fun things. I would love to play more video games. Just don't have the time. I am working on growing though too, like learning piano. Could you call that 'growing up'? Sure....

It's natural. When you're younger every game is a crazy new experience and story tropes aren't tropes to you. But once you play so many if you get a new game and it's not innovative or extremely mechanically polished or immersive, then why play it if you know there's better?

You've got to admit that the quality of newer games, most of them are flaming dumpster fires with serious problems that don't get fixed.

Not to mention the paying for beta access BS on Steam and games that never get finished because of it.

The Signal to Noise ratio on Games have just gotten heavier.

And innovation in game types / genres has slowed down over time.

I believe this has halted many people's interests.

I know modern gaming is ass but, in my case, I have an obscene number of older games which I haven't touched yet. Like multiple thousands at this point, probably. (Not a data hoarder - I'm just really good at activities that will not be named explicitly here.)

That's one big factor in why I kept at it for so long. I felt this...iunno, anxiety almost, over the idea of not getting through the backlog I had created. Like I needed to finish all of this, otherwise my effort had gone to waste. It just hadn't occurred to me that I had created a pile too big for any sane person to deal with. Scratch my earlier comment - maybe I am a data hoarder of a sort. >_>;

But it isn't even just playing games that's lost my interest. I also stopped keeping up on game news and the five billion gaming YT channels I'm subscribed to. It's gaming as a whole that's lost on me now.

For me it's always been
Games = Music > Books >> Video that isn't, like, the cinema kind

That last one being - stuff on YT for instance. Informative, or smaller bits of entertainment. I don't know why but I've never been big on actual films. Even less so for TV. if I'm going to immerse myself in a story, I'd prefer to read it and let my own brain do the work of creating this world and the characters. Imagination is an invaluable thing - one of the main reasons I chose writing as my main creative outlet.

Mine is kinda too yeah

Like 5 or 6 years ago, I woulda been buying Far Cry 5, God of War, those type of games on release day. Now I dont even feel like buying them at all. I know I would enjoy them cause I loved the other ones, but I just dont seem to feel like playing any story games anymore. About the only thing I play is mp, like CoD, Fortnite, 2k etc

I kinda hope that changes too, Red Dead Redemption was one of my all time favorite games, and I hope I dont not feel like playing the sequel when it comes out, which probably sounds pretty stupid but whatever lol

I can't get myself to become invested in a videogame longer than 20 mins anymore. Even games I loved from the past dont hold my attention.

Newer games are just crap, it's hard for me to care about them. I'm in my mid thirties and find myself drifting away from this hobby more and more each year. I think the last time I played a game was a month ago and it was for 15 mins on my Super NES Classic

For me, so many games have "Free to Play with Pay 4 Cosmetics". Then there are "Pay 2 Win" non-sense.
Not to mention the whole "Pay to make significant Progress" from Mobile is infecting games.

The "Pay 2 Win", "Pay 4 Power", "Pay 2 Progress" models are all games I just avoid like the Plague.

So I have plenty of normal games that aren't those models or a Subscription based model to get into.

That really limits the scopes of games I'm interested in.

Plus I don't care for Sports / Puzzle games of any sort.

So it's good to have standards / judgements on what types of games to play.

I've been the same way. I just find that I like being around people more than I used to so I'm always out doing stuff now. A lot of games nowadays aren't drawing my attention as much as older stuff as well. I get tired of games that are popular with my friends like PUBG and League pretty quickly. I've never had much love for competitive games
