Except it wasn't just about the dialogue. For some users, sure, it came down to politics. But the SoD update was marred with a highly controversial UI update, more bugs than ever, and according to some, awful storytelling. I wouldn't know because I never made it out of the first dungeon(I've made three attempts to play with the new UI and I just can't do it).

Even still, it's a petty thing to ask on the developer's part. The way Beamdog just buried their head in the sand is pathetic and unacceptable.

Gotcha, so they were trying to pull a TLJ. Well fuck them then.

There is nothing wrong with that if there were reviews that said shit like that. It would be just as bad as people bitching because of that one Pillars of Eternity backer message.

for the UI thing, do you mean how the whole game now has that stupid black and red UI? even though black and red are my favorite colors, it doesn't fit at all with the regular game. (otherwise, what is it you don't like about the UI?)

I posted my gripes about the UI here:

I hated the UI changes. And it wasn't just a cosmetic standpoint(though, the spellbook absolutely was).

I hated the new scrollbar, I hated how there was a lack of audio feedback for your clicks, I hated how the colors worked(that was a pure amateur job), I hated the excessive and redundant information on the inventory screen....

UI mods only addressed so much of that. Most of them just changed the art, and that was one of the few things I liked. You could also change the positioning and size of different elements of the UI, but those were both non-issues to me. I could get used to that overtime. However, none of my actual complaints were addressed no matter how "customizable" the UI was.

The absolute worst was asking for help and then just being told by the community how "awesome" the new UI was and to just like it. It made me really hate their fanbase. It didn't help with Beamdog burying their head in the sand and refusing to listen the other large portion of the fanbase, like with Trent literally begging the fans to go and post positive reviews on their two major outlets because of all the backlash they were receiving. Just look at the reviews on GoG, for instance.

I don't know what black/red UI you're talking about. However, I did like the art of the black/white UI with the dragon. We might be talking about the same thing, but I don't recall any red.

Content, UI, and bugs, mostly.

That isn't to say one's more buggy than the other. A lot of old bugs got fixed, while many new ones were introduced lol

The UI has gone through numerous changes from the original Sword Coast saga to the version that appeared on GoG to multiple changes via the Enhanced Edition. But up until SoD, the UI was still the same in concept and functionality. SoD changed it to make it look more sleek like a lot of modern games(which doesn't really fit, imo). But it's real crime was that it seriously lacked certain touches and refinement and.... honestly, talented designers. I don't like saying that, but it's the truth. I bought SoD virtually on release and was initially excited even though pre-release news kept disappointing me. I ended up not ever making it out of the first dungeon, while the rest of the world raved on about penis issues and my complaints(as well as many other people's) were drowned out.

For what it's worth, I avoided those "Enhanced Editions" like the plague when they came out, and it had absolutely nothing to do with their politics or an attempt to push SJW ideas. I didn't even know about those at the time I decided the game looked like a piece of shit.

depending on the screen, it's black with a lot of white text, or black with red controls.

basically the UI for the whole game has been changed to fit their Siege of Dragonspear theme. It sort of ruins the feel of the base game; makes it a lot less cheery. The feel of the original was "yay RPG adventure!", but now it's all gloomy. I don't mind how it looks necessarily, or that anything is moved, it just ruins the feel of the game.

Huh.

I always thought Baldur's Gate was kind of dark lol

I mean, the opening intro itself sort of set the tone, in addition to doomy music of both the launch screen(with big ol' scary ass Sarevok right in your face) and the main menu.

only a few parts are "dark". a good chunk of the game is forests and fields.

the title screen is supposed to be adventurous, not dark and gloomy

Those forests and fields are filled with corpses and abandoned children from bandit raids >_>'

Even it's humor can get pretty dark, like with the guy threatening to kill himself.

While we're on this subject, if you get a chance, you've to take a look at the Baldur's Gate mod for Neverwinter Nights 2. Not only is it great, but it's almost exactly how I envision the Sword Coast looking.

I've got the disks(except for ToB; never owned that until High School) floating around somewhere, but they're all in separate Xbox/PS2 cases. We were moving on extremely short notice and by that point in time, they were redundant because either: A) I already had them installed on my PC; or B) GoG, this is more likely as the first is a shitty excuse, but I think it was too early for GoG. 2012?
