Well, I already earned it, I got a Free Switch (Essentially)

but the thing is, What the fuck am I doing?

Why am I getting a new console while I have a huge ass backlog

the answer is Smash bros, but you know what I mean, this is the last thing I need

So, before I can play my Switch, before I can enjoy Smash Bros, I'm gonna need to clear out some of my backlog

I don't think I'm gonna maintain this topic for too long but I'm gonna use this topic to organize my thoughts and games and see what I should Focus on beating, probably by series

maybe like, 20 or so games? Or like, complete 3-5 series'?

it doesn't help alot of these are RPGs

I'm in over my head here

so, any thoughts? Suggestions on what to tackle first?

When you say Theatrhythm, make sure you mean Curtain Call instead of the first one. Curtain Call basically makes the original obsolete.

That is also a game I considered because I do own it

and playing that would enable me to play Project X Zone 2

but apparently I also need to play FE Awakening before I play that as well

This is a damn long list. Not short games, either

How are you going to tackle Fire Emblem? just beat it once on Normal and move on, or actually spend hunderd of hours per game and complete the support options and beat it on harder difficulties?

I'm a person who unlocks every ending and beats every challenge mode, and unlocks everything in the galleries in Fighting Games, so I try to be thorough

Would you say Fire Emblem requires to be beaten that way?

This is ridiculous and dumb. I say this as someone that used to have this mentality with backlogs.

It really sounds to me like you're treating it as a job. Never, ever let gaming be something you take a job-like mentality to. Never play games you don't like too much for the sake of saying you beat it.

Just enjoy games on whatever system they're on. They're a form of entertainment. Play what interests you because of a desire to play them, not because you see a need to beat them or play them to a certain point. I've done that before and it damaged my interest in gaming.

It's fine to make a goal to play certain games. But the moment you feel you're playing something because you only want to beat it, or you restrict yourself from enjoying other things because of a game you don't care much for, you should realize you're wasting your time and should just move on.

Also, you have a Switch. You already earned it. There's no need to beat games. If you want to play your Switch, play your Switch, and have fun with it.

I guess I feel this way because I had this mentality before getting my Switch - I have so many games to play on other systems, why get a new system? But then I realized that the reason I wanted to was because I wanted to enjoy Switch games as well. Sure, I could have tried to go with my backlog of tons of indie games (oh man am I excited to go play and finish some RPG Maker game I got in a bundle in 2014) but if that's not something that interests me, and I'd rather go play Switch, I might as well do that.

All I'm saying is, treat gaming as something fun to do, not as a job to do.

I didn't want to bring this up, but I've suspected i've been suffering from clinical depression for the past several months, though admittedly I still haven't gotten myself checked out for this

I don't want to do anything anymore

I don't really get excited

I don't even partake in things I know I enjoy

let alone in leaving my comfort zone and trying new things

I don't want to watch new movies, old movies, or even take part in my old hobbies, like gaming and drawing

its beyond being jaded and cynical.

But the thing is, IF I force myself to do something, I'll enjoy myself. I'll have fun. Its now become about going beyond that horrible first step.

Thats why I picked these specific series', I KNOW I'll enjoy them

I didn't pick stuff like Call of duty And Assass creed

but in order for me to go past that initial push to get started, I feel like I had to collect my thoughts. Before I made this topic, I already was lamenting on not playing games. Now I got ANOTHER system that I might ignore. What the fuck.

It may seem to you like I'm forcing myself to work and making a chore out of this, but I promise its not like that.

I'm just putting things into perspective. Yesterday I was like "oh yea, I have to finish digimon. and I've been wanting to play metal gear again, oh yea, I own Phantom pain too, oh wait, Zelda is there too" etc etc

me putting everything I know I'll have fun with into a cohesive list is benefiting me

now I hear you about just "do what you want to do" thing
but I'm also a man that does things in order. Part of the reason why I'm doing this is because of Breath of the Wild. I just feel like I shouldn't ignore the older ones I own and go straight to the end. I'll never go back to them if I do that.

So in a way its all related.

Also regarding "gaming as a job" I felt victim to this many years ago
It's also true for movies and tv shows, but on a lesser scale

I just play stuff to not feel "left behind" or miss some stuff that many people played
Even when it's stuff I don't enjoy, like playing Yokai Watch for hundered of hours, just because it was a hit in Japan
Playing the Assassin's Creed series when I rarely enjoy any of them
Playing the Call of Duty single player campaigns just because they are short and I can mark a V next to "beat it" list
It sucks, but knowing I won't ever be able to play everything helps

No one plays online anymore. Me and a friend of mine tried playing the game a few months ago but to our surprise you need two other people when you play multiplayer. You can't just do one and then one AI or whatever

Then we tried sitting in the lobby waiting for someone but it never happened. I even tried getting people from b8 but y'all know how that goes
