Belgian boy Laurent Simons heads off to university aged 8
A Belgian boy has graduated secondary school aged eight after completing six years' study in just a year and a half.

Laurent Simons, whose father is Belgian and mother Dutch, and has an IQ of 145 according to his parents, collected a diploma with a class of 18-year-olds.

Speaking to Belgium's RTBF radio, Laurent said his favourite subject was maths "because it's so vast, there's statistics, geometry, algebra".

After a two-month holiday from school, he will start university.

His father said his son had struggled when he was younger to play with other children, and had not been particularly interested in toys.

Laurent said he had considered becoming a surgeon and an astronaut but was now thinking about going into computers.

What went wrong?

Isn't IQ age related?
The older you get, the more it drops.
You don't get less intelligent, your age factors in.

Yes. The classwork in college requires you being able to travel and take internships. And money would be an issue.

I imagine an 8 year old would never get in this situation without intensive accommodations from their parents.

Your intuition might tell you that, but studies show that if anything IQ decreases with age when you're an adult and there isn't a jump from your kid to teen years either.

Lol and iHuman was the guy who said he sports a 160. Even if he had a 160, that statement he made about IQ not rising would be an effective counter argument regarding the worth of having a high IQ haha

Undergrad workload for all majors is a joke. If you are simply going to school full time, you have the most free time than you will ever have at any other point in your life.

I would say your IQ can't be 160 for saying this but then again IQ is stupid anyway. How can you say this? The brain can change and learn and adopt new skills. You can learn a bunch of math and play brain games and stuff and I'm sure it will help in your pattern recognition.

What a dumb thing to say.
