We haven't had an Onimusha game since the PS2, yet that wasn't even on the poll for an option. Where's our Onimusha remaster and a new game?

The problem with Onimusha is the first thing people are going to complain about is the controls, and if you remove the tank controls the game becomes way too easy. As much as I love the series, it just would not work in today's market.

Nioh was Onimusha enough for me. Thought the game would do well as a Souls-like. It did.

The later Onimushas that were all action, though? Yeah, I didn't care for those.

So what? They can have both control schemes to make both sides happy. I'd rather be able to play the games remastered on my system that is always hooked up to my TV rather than always having to dig out my PS2 whenever I want to play them while also hoping they don't remove the outputs necessary to play it on new TVs.

Nioh isn't a Noboru Sugimura story like Onimusha is.

Onimusha was always action. Where did you get the belief that they were not?

Plus, there are only 4 games in the series.

With Nioh 2, Sekiro, and Ghost of Tsushima coming out, I doubt Capcom wants to jump back into the supernatural samurai genre.

So what?

I literally just told you what. The game's difficulty lies pretty much solely in it's control scheme. Take that away and you have a stupidly simple action game. It is not like REMake where you can make the game a little simpler while still maintaining a lot of what made the original games challenging. It would make the games a complete cake walk. And like I said before, a game with tank controls is not going to have enough mainstream appeal to even warrant a remake/remaster. Best you could hope for is if the games show up on Playstation Now.

I'm sure it could be fine tuned. Onimusha doesn't need to be a direct copy.

While we're naming games I always see people going back to the PS2 gen. Games before then would be good too. Brave Fencer Musashi, Ape Escape, Point Blank, Twisted Metal (the last game on PS3 wasn't that bad), Jet Moto, Lunar, Jumping Flash, Startropics, Earthbound, Guardian Legend, someone mentioned Warioland in another topic... Both Sony and Nin have huge numbers of classics to choose from.

Key word: I'm. You might want it, but it isn't going to have mainstream appeal. That is just the hard truth, it is why the game series as a whole hasn't even broken the 8 million sales mark despite having 7 games (4 of them main series).

Capcom isn't going to do it if they can't guarantee at least 1 million sales, and there is no way it is going to even come close to that.

I dont think it would have any less mainstream appeal than nioh. I really dont see why you think it would be so hard to change the mechanics up a bit for a new onimusha game. It's been done with plenty of other series. Not to mention, hack and slash are pretty much all stupidly easy anyway barring something like ninja gaiden on master difficulty

Because at that point it isn't an Onimusha game anymore. The reason the game mechanics are the way they are is because that is how samurai fight: Slow and deliberate. I mean if the mechanics WERE to change, I would hearken it more to Dark Souls then Nioh. That is really more of the direction the series would need to go in.

That's fine, but Onimusha isn't hack and slash. It is an action-adventure game. The game isn't nearly fast paced and phonetic enough to be a hack and slash. It is more Resident Evil then Devil May Cry.

Having hundreds of enemies to kill at once does not make a game a hack and slash. Needing to have twitch reflexes and fast reaction times does, which is not what Onimusha requires. Onimusha is about carefully planning out your moves and studying enemy patterns to determine the best course of action. In other words, it is more Dark Souls then Bayonetta.

You really dont have to do much planning in onimusha. You can pretty much survive mashing the square button repeatedly with a pinch of easily timed blocking like every other hack and slash

I liked 3 and Dawn very much as well, Dawn has an epic ost. The main character of 2 was way too emo for me to enjoy the story of that one.
