Just over half of Americans say they approve of Trump's handling of North Korea but only 26% believe North Korea would actually get rid of their nukes after this week where the President said he TRUSTS that Un will get rid of his nukes after signing a declaration that he will "work towards denuclearization"

The Reuters/Ipsos poll showed that 40% of those said they did not believe the countries would stick to their comittments while another 26% said that he would and 34% said they don't know whether he would follow through

39% said they believe the summit has lowered the threat of a nuclear war while 37% said nothing has changed.

Trump hailed the meeting as a success which is a sharp contrast in the past where they had a tit for tat insults from rocket man to dotard comments.

Trump said that Kim Jung Un is a "talented" and "great" man who truly loves his people as he vowed to stop the "expensive" military drills in south korea which has South Korea and Japan worried about the drills ending and american presence leaving the country. He also said these drills will SAVE america a lot of money as he works to cut more government spending to pay for his expensive tax cut bill and border wall..

Do you trust Kim Jung Un?

No of course he won't, things are just going to carry on business as usual, because Trump is a fucking pushover when it comes right down to it.

I expect that he'll at least make token gestures to drag out this process for the benefits. And, quite frankly, getting them to the table might help move the ball in the right direction regardless.

Kim realizes that the nukes don't serve him any good anymore. his only hope is to appease the world. also, rumor is their nuke program is ruined. some kind of accident killed a bunch of scientists and blew up a facility. and it would cost too much money to restart. they are fucked. that's why they are giving up

Even if that's true, why would he give them up?
Smarter to just act like he's being peaceful now, but insist on keeping the stockpile. He just won't do any testing now in return for some trade/relief. Then at least other countries can't be sure they don't work and he keeps the lie alive. Makes others think twice about taking military action against him.

Again, I should point out that Libya disarmed long before the upheaval and the threat of nukes would have likely done little to stop the upheaval (other than possibly discouraging outsiders from provoking it)

If we can convince him to discontinue further activity, that's a huge net win.

Well yeah, just keeping outside nations from getting involved at all is a pretty major consideration.

Definitely, it is. But actually giving up his nukes completely and/or admitting they're unusable anymore would be pretty dumb on Kim's part.
I'm fine w/ turning NK into another "mutually assured destruction" sort of peace situation. Not as good as no nuclear threat at all, but better than remaining hostile.

If it does happen b/c NK ran into such issues w/ their nuclear program, then it came about as a fluke and nothing more. I'm fine w/ that. But don't you dare go claiming Trump is to thank for the peace deal if so.

We do have to thank him for not screwing up something that was handed to him on a silver platter.
