26 y/o Mariah Parker, the newly elected Athens-Clarke County Commissioner took her oath of office WITHOUT the BIBLE as most legislators swear on as she decided to use the AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF MALCOLM X instead!!

The University of Georgia Doctoral Student and RAPPER beat her opponent, Taylor Pass by 13 votes to secure her victory

She said "They asked if they would like the Bible and i said no. My mother asked if there was a copy of the Constitution around. No. I wanted Malcolm's book. I think they saw it coming"

Viral photos have now been circulating around of her holding up her first while her mom, Mattie holds the book for her as her platform is tackling economic and social justice, reducing poverty and discrimination, affordable housing, fair wage jobs, youth development, criminal justice reform and marijuana advocacy

The district she represents has struggled economically and is under resourched compared to neighboring areas and she said "Malcom's willingness to unediedly speak about black people at large, are qualities that i want to embody. To speak out when i see things going wrong"

She said seeing a man who transformed himself to become a vocal advocate and push for conversations on race his emboldened her to run for office and the fact that he died for his politics are things she wants to embrace.

She has her own struggles to overcome as well including drug abuse and mental health but broke away from it through generation patterns as people used to see her as someone with nothing to offer

She also spends time rapping under the name Lingua Franca with her liberal politics heavily factoured into her lyrics...which has also been the target of ALT-RIGHT groups who have down voted the videos and made harsh comments

Not sure why she didn't swear on the Koran, since Malcolm X seems to have always been a Muslim, though he did leave the Nation of Islam.

How is the biography of a guy comparable to the bible or constitution? They're very different types of literature, Malcolm X's bio doesn't represent a moral code to uphold unless she swears to be the best Malcolm X she can be.

I don't care that she didn't swear on the Bible. I would choose the constitution, myself.

However, it should be troubling to everyone that she swore in on the book of a racist. Malcom X literally said white people are pigs. That the white man is the devil.
This is racism, and that means she condones racism. She is not fit for office, and anyone who goes along with her, instead of demanding she resign, aught to be ashamed of themselves.
This would be tantamount to her being white and swearing in on a Richard Spencer autobiography.

It isnt about what you use. Its a symbol of your oath to do your job in office as a duly elected official.

Considering how well people who swear on the Bible do in that aspect, this being the book means little.

The bible represents the values they uphold and thus the means by which they claim to uphold their oath. Them being shit is them directly harming the Christian faith, it's supposed to mean that Christians should distrust them strongly.

If you swear on Malcolm X's biography, you're not claiming to uphold anything other than Malcolmisms so anything in your oath you don't do that Malcolm X wouldn't do is basically par for course. Basically the oath means absolutely nothing to anybody but those who deify Malcolm X.
