@Doctor_Foxx - You did that one, right?

I haven't looked at it in ages, but I went on today and it was heavily improved. I guess they added 5x the samples and improved the specificity of the regions (Europe West and Scandinavia have been broken down into smaller, more accurate groups and no longer exist). Mine and my mother's received the update, but my cousin and my wife are still waiting.

The part of the map mine was centred on remains unchanged, but because they've redrawn genetic boundaries and added more of them, my results look fairly different. All of my trace regions were deemed erroneous and removed, for starters. The western quarter of Germany (where my dad's family are from) is included in both "England and Wales" as well as "Germanic Europe", so I wound up with 66% "England and Wales", despite my dad's half of the DNA input never having lived further west than German border areas.

I did 23 and me. But I'm probably getting an ancestry DNA kit for my birthday or Christmas. Good to know

My dad found his half brother care of ancestry. There's apparently a huge family on his side. They grew up in the same neighborhood, went to the same schools, and never knew each other. Crazy stuff.

Ooh. Ok. 23andme updated as well. They've specified that my eastern European are Ukrainian and Russian, that my British and Irish is mostly British, and that the Scandinavian is all Norwegian. Interesting!

Have you checked your DNA profile recently? All of the major European regions (except Eastern) have been replaced by much more specific ones.

That's crazy!

My wife, who has never met her father, actually met her paternal uncle and half-sister because of Ancestry, and managed to create relationships with them. It's pretty nice.
