WASHINGTON President Donald Trump, under pressure from special counsel Robert Muellers investigation into Russias role in the 2016 U.S. election, probably has the power to pardon himself but does not plan to do so, his attorney Rudy Giuliani said on Sunday.

Asked whether Trump has the power to give himself a pardon, Giuliani said, Hes not, but he probably does. Giuliani added that Trump has no intention of pardoning himself, but that the U.S. Constitution, which gives a president the authority to issue pardons, doesnt say he cant.

Giuliani noted that the political ramifications of a self-pardon could be severe. Giuliani told NBCs Meet the Press with Chuck Todd that the president of the United States pardoning himself would just be unthinkable. And it would lead to probably an immediate impeachment.

The only reason he isn't planning to pardon himself is because his ego won't let him believe he'll be charged with anything.

Giuliani has proven time and again he has absolutely no idea what he's talking about, so this probably means Trump doesn't have the power to pardon himself and he has absolutely been trying to do it.

Because the dude is a fucking loon. Remember this is the same guy that got the job and immediately went on the literal Trumpeter safe space that is Hannity's show and admitted to like 3 crimes that Trump and his cronies committed.

Rudy is terrible at that though. Also probably not much worse at lawyering than Trump's actual lawyers, considering they're already resorting to the Nixon defense.

That plus the Supreme Court has held that accepting a pardon constitutes an admission of guilt, which Trump is literally incapable of doing.

Granted, someone would have to drive that point through his thick skull, as the odds are almost zero that Trump actually knows that.

I don't think he has any understanding of that whole "pardon is an admission of guilt" thing

His understanding of the concept probably is only about as deep as "pardon=get out of jail free"

There was a really good article about how Giuliani operates and basically it's to throw all these absurd baseless claims out there so that the real stories get overshadowed by his dumb BS, and also sets really weird public expectations for things (like people literally now anticipate that the Mueller investigation is going to be done by 1 September even though no one ever said that except Giuliani).

Yeah, he is actually good at creating chaff, because the media slavishly reports on everything he says and does even though it's all really dumb and/or intentionally in bad faith, and they usually don't do a great job at conveying just how dumb it all is.
Of course, I doubt anyone other than Trumpists buy it, but, then again, lots of people don't realize that the investigation has delivered a lot of indictments and a few guilty pleas already, so maybe it works better than I, some one who follows this stuff closely, realize.

The spies (that don't exist) clearly found crimes or the probe wouldn't have already got convictions from people in Trump's campaign and such.

You have to be convicted to be pardoned. A conviction in an impeachment trial means removal from office. That would mean that he would lose the power to pardon the moment that the conviction is handed down.

Sources :

The US Constitution Article II, Section 2

The US Constitution Article II Section 4

It would require an Amendment for a President to self-pardon.

Try reading this, you might learn something :
