Spoilers?

Additionally:

Heimdall was just amazing. Idris Elba wrecked it. Up there with Loki as the best two characters from the Thor movies.

Also, Malekith was really lame as a villain. Not necessarily terrible, but nothing made me care for him and his villainy ahead of even Whiplash.

There's a lot that's weak in this movie, but the misrepresentation of Odin is a good call out. I mostly felt annoyed at him for being an annoying old man. Didn't feel like a wise ancient king at all.

also i feel like 90% sure that there were subtitles for the dark elves in theatres but iv never seen them in any reviewings since

Odin was the voice of wisdom in the first movie, helping Thor to grow and learn. Not so much in the second, though I guess he was hurt by grief.

it wouldn't have been so bad if he wasn't acting petty and condescending *before* the dark elf invasion. genuine grief is a good reason to behave out of character.

i think the whole "torn between two worlds" plot was done pretty weakly overall and Odin was a victim to it

That movie was dumb.

Apparently the was this whole subplot about Malekith's motivations that made him more compelling and sympathetic that was cut out. So in the end he now only wants the Aether to "cover the universe in darkness, rawr!" or whatever. Lot of bad decisions in that movie.

Saw the entirety of The Avengers recently for the first time. I did like it but I didn't love it. Loki was my favorite thing about the film.

On a scale of 1-10 I'd give The Avengers a 7, though close to an 8. If you want to know what I thought in more detail feel free to ask. I will admit though that the only other full Marvel movies I've seen are both Guardians of the Galaxy films, Age of Ultron, Civil War, Doctor Strange, and Spider-Man: Homecoming, and the only one of those I particularly enjoyed was the first Guardians of the Galaxy, which I think I prefer to The Avengers.

Okay, I'll at least do the movies you've gone through so far.

Iron Man: "We're setting a high standard for Marvel films, but we're setting a low standard for forgiving war profiteers."

The Incredible Hulk: "Part of the '2008 was a great year for superheroes' boom, but in hindsight, it does not really fit into the MCU anymore."

Thor: "Branagh's direction is excellent, but the script is lackluster. The Shakespearean stylization of the Norse Gods works wonderfully, at least."

Captain America: The First Avenger: "The difference between this movie and The Rocketeer is..."

Iron Man 2: "A terrible human being faces off against a slightly more terrible human being who employs a very overrated actor."

Avengers: "With each passing viewing of this movie, I become less and less enamored with the first modern 'event' film. Also, Tony Stark should have spent more time designing the Cosmic Cube security."

Iron Man 3: "Someone packaged a 90s party film with an 80s Spielberg film and added 10s special effects. The result is unique but also disjointed."

Thor: Dark World: "The first Marvel movie in the era of, 'We say a lot of words in a peculiar jargon without really grounding them in stakes that matter, therefore creating a bloated world without emotional attachment."

The best word I'd use to describe The Avengers is "entertaining". It's not some transcendent piece of cinema and much of what made it special is commonplace now, but overall it still works. The plot is nothing to write home about but it's still decent and able to carry the action, which starts early and progressively ramps up, culminating in a pretty epic climax. At the same time it isn't so filled with action that the action scenes lose their impact - this is not Transformers!. The fight scenes aren't amazing but they're still enjoyable. There's a fair bit of naturally witty dialogue in this movie, I guess the MCU hadn't yet gotten to the point where it tried to make EVERYTHING into a joke.

Honestly I just caught it coming on TV and decided to watch it, and I can't say I regret it.

Watching Agents episode 8.

Thor is dreamy.

What from Thor is going to be a problem? I guess a rod that makes a girl strong.

There's a lot of yelling in this episode.

Coulson sicced angry Ward on the professor... it was so cute.

Got to see Ward go crazy on some dudes, but it was a little disappointing because they cut to a different scene and didn't show all the action. May kicked ass though.

May > Skye > Coulson >= Ward > Simmons >= Fitz

This train episode is hilarious.

Stan Lee cameo was solid, nice to see goin yelling at Coulson. I dig the methodology of replaying through the episode from a different perspective as it goes. Coulson and Ward trying to figure out the tech was great. And the Easter egg mention of abomination being kept frozen in Alaska.

Oh you fucker, you shot Skye.
