I just finished Agent Carter, too
S1 was fantastic, I have to rank it close to the top of the Netflix shows (below Punisher and DD1 obviously, a little below JJ1 I guess, far above LC and IF)
S2 was less so, but still very enjoyable, they improved on the humor (although there was a episode which the humor was way over the top, I think it was the Roxxon Facility episode) but no mystery at all and I didn't really like Whitny Frost as a villain, she wasn't very threatening

It's a real shame not many people watched it, mostly because of it being aired before MCU shows became super popular, and because it was not on Netflix
More people need to watch it

Also, super sad now to know S3 won't be happening - there are too many loose ends they need to tie
Zola at the end of S1, the Arena Club pin, Dottie Underwood escaped, Jack being shot, the mystery man that took the file, Peggy's husband (probably Sousa but we still don't know)

So Coulson is just alive. Ok.

Show is starting out a little slow. Didn't really start paying attention until Hill showed up.

But I guess there's something Coulson doesn't know!

The style of this episode is typical serial. I wasn't as intrigued as I was with the pilot of agent Carter. But I suppose that was more of a miniseries and this is more of a tv show. Also, this being the first foray...

It's interesting enough where I want to keep watching, at least. I'll start with that. And it's clearly after Iron Man 3 so I better watch that soon.

Agents of SHIELD starts really rough

Its watchable but doesn't really get anything close to interesting until about episode 10, and doesn't truly get captivating until episode 17 or 18 I forgot which, someone else can probably specify (which is after Captain America 2 and you need to watch that first)

You should probably watch IM 3 before heading into AoS fully. And then before episode 8 you wanna watch Thor 2 and then watch Winter Soldier before or right after episode 16.

After that it's not really important to schedule your AoS viewings as far as I recall, although you should probably watch Civil War before watching season 4.

I have a chronological timeline I'm following. Iron Man 3 is one of the movies I've seen though, so I didn't mind watching ahead. I'll stop once I hit Thor 2 though.

I watched episode 3. The gravity stuff reminds me of the dark matter from Agent Carter. Still, only solid. As y'all say, watchable, but not really special.

Iron Man 3

Ranking this one is going to be tough.

So first of all, miles and miles better than Iron Man 2, but I think that goes without saying. From what I'm told, then only thing that will threaten to unseat Iron Man 2's seat at the bottom is the... next movie. Woo.

The format of the movie, being told as a story from Tony's point of view, is pretty solid, although a little weird because we haven't seen something like it before. The movies are all told from a 3rd person omniscient point of view, but this one is a 1st person omniscient... which makes it a little weird when scenes without Tony happen. But I digress. This leads to two amazing moments... one is ending the movie with the same line that the first one ends with "I am Iron Man", but with so much more meaning and completion to it. Tony's arc throughout the entire 4 movies ends really solidly here - he has his place in the world, he understands who he is, what his self and Pepper mean to him. His conclusion is really good. So of course I expect them to ruin it with Avengers 2.

The other great thing is it leads to the post-credits scene, which is absolutely amazing. It hits the "Marvel humor" button better than anything else in the movie, with Tony talking to MARK RUFFALO as if he's a psychiatrist. Who slept through the entire movie.

Tony's relations with other characters are really highlighted well throughout this. It shows 99 Tony, which of course is an unforgivable asshole. It shows his friendship with Rhodey, and how he has him on speed-dial and how the guys are still bros... man, this is the movie we're missing. A proper Iron Man 2.5 with Tony and Rhodes just going to town on people. Guy better get more screentime in the future.

We get Tony's love for Happy which is just heartwrenching </3 :'( Tony really cares and notices every little thing for Happy and that's just beautiful. We get his relationship with Pepper, which as usual is Tony cares, but does stupid things, and if she wasn't so strong, this would totally be an abusive relationship (still is, but she holds her ground well enough). Like, she's too good for him, really.

And of course, Tony's relationship with casual people. Continues to be a jokester and absolute asshole, but... maybe others don't like this, but his chemistry with the kid was awesome. I also didn't feel like it was "WE GOTTA PUT A KID INTO THIS" to cheaply play on kids being cute like IM2 did or "LET'S HAVE A GOOFY ASS STORY ARC", I really felt that the whole Tennessee thing was well done. Mostly because Tony didn't act particularly different to the kid, which let us see that he's still become a really good dude who is insufferable to be around.

The villain was strong. The Mandarin was set up really well from the beginning, and they didn't really even try to hide that Killian was involved with the shit. I can't remember how I felt the first time I watched it, but I feel like they hid Mandarin being a figurehead pretty well. That said, at the end of the movie, Killian yells "I'M THE MANDARIN" which is unnecessary, like, we've figured it out dude. Trevor Slattery A+ though.

Stan Lee's cameo was the best of the Iron Man movies. One half-second of him giving a 10 to a beauty contest contestant. Good and brief.

How this felt as an Iron Man movie - it gave us personal challenges and development without killing the character/movie a la Iron Man 2. Like, so soon after Iron Man 2, it feels a little cheap, but remembering that movie as awful makes this one do it better. It humanized the hero, but also solidfied him. I come out of this movie saying "Iron Man has his place in the MCU". It's a shame he went and blew up all his suits though.

Iron Man 1 was funnier, I enjoyed Tony Stark more in it. But the villain was worse, the plot development felt a lot more cookie cutter whereas IM3 had better pacing, and the development and overall cast was stronger in 3.

As for the twist, I'm having trouble being sincere on it. I don't remember how I felt watching for the first time. Why did you feel it was dumb?

I really didn't like Killian and the magic fire stuff. I don't remember liking the Pepper storyline. I think I got annoyed at the little kid parts.

Having a ton of super specialized suits seemed weird and pointless. Especially ones designed to just do regular jobs.

I actually liked the Mandarin fake-out except that I want a real Mandarin enemy and Killian was not that. Felt like a lame way to end the 10 rings stuff. And then Marvel kind of retconned it?

i... just don't entirely get why they did it? when i saw the movie for the first time i was impressed with how well they adapted the mandarin character from the comics, and then it turns out he's just a fake? why?

imagine if you're watching avengers 1 and midway through the movie loki is like "OH ACTUALLY I'M JUST A CIRCUS CLOWN GUYS LOL" and some random dude is like "i am the REAL loki!!" pretty sure you'd be like "wtf?"

I get that, Lasa. It was a very IRL-relevant type villain, but basically used as a facade for the real villain, who was, again, just a rich guy in charge of things.

This was good because it got to play on a fun character, fake Mandarin, who didn't get enough time in Iron Man 3. Also, it established that there IS a real Mandarin in the world, which is potentially cool, but also potentially dumb, especially if they establish this and never continue it.

The only thing I heard about the 10 rings stuff from before was the Rhodes comic where he missed the attack on New York. Are there other 10 rings references in the MCU?
