DD in general has some weird structure for its cases. It has the only multi-day trial-only case, as well as the only single-day epic case. Plus, it has a case take place in the middle of another one. 5-4 is also the only full-length case that has a trial day first.

6-5 is essentially two epic one-dayccades, to be fair. isn't day 2 of 6-5 longer than 5-5?

Also yes, Candice is one of the more intriguing victims not related to one of the main characters.

oh hey there was a panel about season 2 of the Ace Attorney anime today

Apparently, they're going to squeeze 2-1 in at the beginning, presumably to introduce Maggey for 3-3. Kinda weird, but whatever. Takumi also confirmed there will be anime-exclusive content this time around, too. He said there will be a story set on a train.

There was also a trailer shown but it hasn't been publicly released yet.

I like how Cosmos just keeps telling obvious lies and the game tries to paint him into a corner as the culprit, only for them to subvert it at the end by revealing that he had a reason for lying other than being the killer.

Cosmos is pretty great. I dunno that I'd call him a total subversion; AA has had plenty of characters whom the game tries to paint as maybe the killer only to reveal a different reason for their lies (Adrian Andrews being one of the earlier clearcut cases of such). But his lies are still fun to untangle and the guy is just legit hilarious.

Well, Adrian Andrews is a subversion for a different reason.

But 5-4 plays with your expectations in a lot of interesting ways. You get a Not Guilty without ever finding the killer, only for them to drop the bomb of "Upon thorough analysis, the fingerprints were found to belong to Athena Cykes," which was the only legit WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT moment in DD for me.

speaking of which 5-4 is complete so numbers forthcoming soonish

To be fair, considering Tonate noticed what he was stealing, it wasn't going to be the worst outcome to let him go. It gave Ted a chance to cover everything up, and possibly get the credit for being a hero in the situation. He'd have gotten away with it except that the bloody writing wasn't blown up because the bomb case was covering it up.

DD is weird about sometimes having characters use nicknames that they don't normally use. Edgeworth just called Pearl "Pearls," and Apollo calls Juniper "Junie" a couple times during 5-3.

I don't remember the exact instance in which he uses the nickname, but in a vacuum, Edgeworth calling her Pearls makes sense to me. He's barely interacted with her directly and probably mostly knows about her via Phoenix talking about her (DD suggests the two are indeed friends non-professionally in the years between T&T and DD), so if Phoenix calls her Pearls in those situations (which we don't actually see), there you go.

Normally, I'd chalk it up to Edgeworth just being bad with names (as he is wont to be), but it's just one weird outlier here.

5-5 Investigation Day 1 complete

I'm glad they brought the black Psyche-Locks back and explained the reason for their existence. It's also a great cliffhanger to end the day.

too bad they're not consistent with the black psyche-locks in 4-4 at all

4-4 didn't bother giving any reason for them to exist so they could be flexible with it. 4-4 just put them in there to be mysterious. Regardless, I think you can make the explanation work even with Kristoph's, too, since the idea is that it's so deeply ingrained in their subconscious that it's essentially a part of who that person is. You couldn't extract the secret without doing psychological damage if you're not careful about it.

and when they exposed Kristoph's secrets in 4-4 the dude certainly went psycho

I dunno seems like pretty post-hoc justification. I'm pretty sure kristoph just had block psyche-locks because he's so EVIL and because they didn't want you to do a psyche-lock investigation there
