DD in general has some weird structure for its cases. It has the only multi-day trial-only case, as well as the only single-day epic case. Plus, it has a case take place in the middle of another one. 5-4 is also the only full-length case that has a trial day first.

Cosmos is pretty great. I dunno that I'd call him a total subversion; AA has had plenty of characters whom the game tries to paint as maybe the killer only to reveal a different reason for their lies (Adrian Andrews being one of the earlier clearcut cases of such). But his lies are still fun to untangle and the guy is just legit hilarious.

But 5-4 plays with your expectations in a lot of interesting ways. You get a Not Guilty without ever finding the killer, only for them to drop the bomb of "Upon thorough analysis, the fingerprints were found to belong to Athena Cykes," which was the only legit WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT moment in DD for me. speaking of which 5-4 is complete so numbers forthcoming soonish --- ... I don't remember the exact instance in which he uses the nickname, but in a vacuum, Edgeworth calling her Pearls makes sense to me. He's barely interacted with her directly and probably mostly knows about her via Phoenix talking about her (DD suggests the two are indeed friends non-professionally in the years between T&T and DD), so if Phoenix calls her Pearls in those situations (which we don't actually see), there you go.
