As someone who is actually a chemist and is actually working in pharmacology right now, I think I outrank you on "knowing what I'm talking about" and can say you don't really know what you're talking about. At least, you are greatly over exaggerating the negative effectives while minimizes the positives of ambien over its closest competitors. You're "working" on a competitor now (I'm assuming you aren't a chemist or scientist based on the way you talk so far so you must be on the business end of it?) - the people around you are likely to over exaggerate the benefits of their product specifically because they're trying to market it at the moment. They're not going to go "yeah ambien is ok but the side effects of this are slightly less serious" which if I had to guess is the actuality of the situation.
