Phillips heads are actually designed to cam out if something goes wrong. That was a design feature intended for assembly line production so a tool wouldn't bind up and hold up production.

If I had a choice, robertson, but for some reason almost everything is phillips or slot.
I always wonder why there's no triangle, or maybe deep slotted, screwdriver bit. the two most common are the two easiest to slip, but it doesn't have to be that way. thinking about it, I guess it probably has to do with the mass of the head or something. something like robertson probably requires a relatively deep head, which works if you can drive it into wood, but not metal. something like slot requires the least massive head, I guess. --- ... Phillips heads are actually designed to cam out if something goes wrong. That was a design feature intended for assembly line production so a tool wouldn't bind up and hold up production. On the flip side, I've had multiple Phillips head screws strip and become completely irremovable by standard means solely because the wrong size bit was being used, or even the right size bit used at the wrong angle. Whereas I've never stripped a single flathead screw in my entire life. --- "Wall of Text'D!" --- oldskoolplayr76 "POwned again." --- blight family ... Copied to Clipboard!

There is the snake eyes screw too. The bit is prone to snap though especially when used by a power tool.
