holy frick

spent two hours this morning too tired and exhausted to get out of bed, in pain from congestion and the only thing that was repeating in my mind was some fictitious court room proceeding between two guys arguing about who was at fault for vehicle damage. For like two hours. Felt like hell.

The defendant claims his neighbors asshole wasn't ripped open while he trying to jump his fence... the plaintiff says otherwise, and he has the turds to prove it.

Could that be a form of sleep paralysis? But instead of seeing creepy ass shadow alien people who say weird shit to you it's like... you're trapped listening to the plaintiff and defendant go back and forth about who was driving the car and whether the insurance was valid at the time of the accident and actually there were multiple cars?

Most of those shows are actually 'binding arbitration'. Both sides agree in advance to accept whatever 'ruling' is made on the show. Some of the shows also have a schtick involved. Judge Judy especially relies on schtick. The producers of the show look for individuals whom they think will be 'entertaining idiots' on the air. Other shows though, like People's Court, will actually try to stick to the laws that would be involved in a normal courtroom.

This is why People's Court is the pretty much the only court show I'll voluntarily watch, and why I wish Judge Judy would just fucking retire already.

They still don't have to pay the judgements that are ordered against them. It's really pointless.

Yeah, I know... generally they're paid an appearance fee and any "judgment" that's made is taken out of the loser's payment and given to the winner's.

I'll admit that I liked Judge Judy for the first year or two it was on, but the whole "the judge is a bitch" shtick has gotten really stale by now.

(I also liked Judge Mills Lane, if anyone else here is old enough to remember when that was a thing.)

Maybe normal people ARE idiots... I mean on Judge Faith there are some people who are respectful to each other and the judge and they're pretty straightforward cases and then there's the other types of people who are yelling over each other constantly.

on judge faith, she's a black judge.

And the plaintiffs were these rednecks and the defendant was black.

And the defendant was like "She called me the N word repeatedly and told me she wasn't going to give me my deposit back"

And the plaintiff was like "I would never say that word, EVER". And then the defendant was like "I have a recording of another conversation..."

And the plaintiff clearly called him the N word like three times in a row. And then the husband was like "But black people say it to each other all the time". Judge got so livid xfd.

A half day of jury selection, a day of opening statement and botched plaintiff testimony, an hour of waiting in the jury room the next morning for the judge to tell us they settled.

It was a scheduled 9 day trial over a $300,000 piece of equipment designed to make aluminum fence posts. At the time the company was making posts from 3/4" PVC pipe expanded in a press. They wanted to do the same thing with 3" aluminum pipe. The judge told us it had been in litigation for 7 years or so and had ballooned well beyond the cost of the equipment.

Settlement was confidential in the sense that the jury wasn't told what it was.
