80 so far which is pretty much exactly what I predicted. It's higher than beyond two souls but lower than the original release of heavy rain (but higher man the ps4 version of heavy rain so take that as you will)

The Sadness Saga continues.

Worst part is that SBFP's LP is delayed a week or so for some reason. It's like the game may as well not even be out yet!

man I don't think I see any games get more unjust hate than Quantic Dream games

except maybe Sonic

like I swear if he put out a game under literally any other name everyone would be fine with it, but then they'd retroactively start hating it if they found out he made it

....It's not in the slightest unjust. People hate the games because the writing is awful. If he changed his name he wouldn't suddenly be a good writer. I hated Heavy Rain long before I knew who David Cage was, him being so easily hateable even outside of the games themselves is just a bonus.

Even most of these positive reviews are saying the game has writing and narrative issues, but the "narrative control" is still interesting. Seems to me if a game where writing is all that really matters has bad writing, you probably shouldn't give it a great score!

Well, it comes out on the 28th. Probably because they're busy this weekend. But we get the two prologue episodes!

This is implying that the majority of the criticisms are not valid which is absurd. If you can't understand why they don't get hate I don't know what to tell you.

I was someone that was incredibly hyped for Heavy Rain, I paraded that game to many people as it was developing. And then I played it and oh boy.

His games have ELEMENTS of interesting things that COULD be good if David Cage wasnt the one writing

UNRELIABLE NARRATOR DOESNT WORK WHEN YOU CAN HEAR THE CHARACTERS THOUGHTS AND HE CONTRADICTS THE EVENTS IN HIS OWN HEAD, ASSHOLE. WHY WOULD HE DO THAT SHIT WHEN HE WAS ALOOOOOOOONE??

Back of that shop may be one of the worst scenes ever in any story I've ever seen. All of that game's "twists" are written on the basis that the characters know they are playable characters in a video game.

Right?

Like I enjoyed Heavy Rain and Beyond: Two Souls and I think this looks pretty good

I don't think either game was perfect but they're still cool and fun to play

It sucks to feel like I can't publicly be excited for a game because everyone completely writes it off before it's even out.

Funny thing is, everyone was really excited about the original Kara demo when they first showed it off (which was just an eventual lead in to this game)

I sincerely hope the game is better than his track record and it certainly looks visually impressive. But when you have a track record like his of writing women horribly, having plot twists for the sake of plot twists with no sense to them, and just generally throwing ideas into the story that never get made sense of, yea I'm gonna go in with apprehension.

A reminder that Cage is on record saying the game isn't meant to be a slavery parallel.

And Fable: The Journey wasn't on-rails.

To an extent this is right, since there are TONS of games that are equally shit as his games which get a pass because it's not a meme to hate on those games.

But his games are undeniably shit. The fact that gamers are so eager to ignore the faults of, or even praise, other shit games doesn't change that.

I think it's more that his games are presented as the peak of storytelling of video games is why it gets so much more focused than most other games. It's a meme because it's the most popular of it's genre and it's treated like it's something much more special than it ever is.

Is it the most popular of its genre?

He is the only one who pretends that his games are peak storytelling. Reviewers and players have never thought that. Maybe some players, but not enough to create the meme.

There are other games like the new GoW or SotC or whatever that ARE presented like peak storytelling and all reviewers and gamers are like "yup 10/10 we'll go with that". And it applies to gameplay too like with BOTW. So many games with mediocre gameplay are given massive leeway by media and gamers and they won't tolerate any criticism at all. That's the meme for those games.

It's actually the exact same thing with Cage's games, but in the opposite direction. The meme hurts him instead of helps. And any praise of his game isn't tolerated. But it's still meme driven.

All that being said, it's a great meme. I can't wait for the SBF playthrough...

There are ways unreliable narrator can work when you can hear a character's thoughts, but it almost invariably involves multiple personalities or being upfront about breaking the fourth wall. The stupid thing is that the game sort of sets that up with Ethan in the stupidest way possible, goes nowhere with it because of rewrites, and then doesn't even use it for the character it would have made sense to use it for.
