After the first episode or two, it's pretty decent for what it is. And technically it's based on some older show that was popular in NZ, etc, that was loosely based on JttW. Although there's a *lot* of stuff based on JttW out there, considering it's a very popular story.

Yeah, it's more a remake of "Monkey," probably the basis of why they made Trip a women as he was played by a woman in Monkey. Also, in the episode with the false Monkey King, where they are having a feast, they are playing the theme tune to Monkey in the background.

I was introduced to Journey to the West via this series in the 90s.
