But all cops stand by and allow other cops to be bullies and try to help them cover up bullshit they did to protect their friends job or whatever. Some officers who use excessive force and abuse their power wouldnt have done it if the blue line of protection didnt basically make them feel so invincible. This part of police culture needs to change.

Indeed. It doesn't matter what percentage of cops are bad. What does matter is whether or not they are protected when they are bad.

Cops are cops

I mean, there's a lot of stuff in a cop's job. Like directing traffic when traffic lights don't work or something.

Being 4 minutes old is a bit under the posting limit. Also, you are quite advanced for your age.

I dont really understand cop apologists and why people who question them are so stigmatized like if you dont do anything wrong you dont have to worry. Dude cops can kill people for no reason and get a paid vacation. I am afraid of police tho I am a law abiding citizen.

That culture will never change. It's legitimately ingrained in to American society at this point. No insular group of people is ever supposed to betray it.

To be fair, i thik a lot try to deal with the issue but get stonewalled, or feel they can do more good for the community while not rocking the boat than they can from having been kicked off it.

- The good cops get fired for exposing the bad cops. Whats largely (but not completely) left are the silent cops, which by doing so also makes them bad cops.

- They investigate themselves and find themselves clear of all wrongdoing.

- The police & district attorneys are dependent on one another. Its no surprise when an officer facing charges gets cleared of any wrongdoing.

- Also blame police unions.

There are bad cops, and more to the point, bad people who are cops; this is an indisputable fact. Positing that all cops are bad because we enable these bad cops is juvenile, at best.

Are there documented, publicized cases of police protecting each other? Absolutely. Recently, even. Is protecting an officer who has clearly done wrong the normal procedure? Absolutely not.

Not for the officers, who know that one man's actions taint the entire profession. We know one corrupt cop makes us all corrupt in the public'a eyes. We don't seek to protect those who sully our reputation. However, we also don't always have the whole story.

Just because we work in law enforcement, and even with the individual in question, doesn't mean we have all of the facts of the case. We're in the dark as much as the public most of the time. So, our initial reaction will be and should be hesitant to condemn. As seen in the case with the Texas trooper accused of rape, sometimes the loudest accusations are the biggest lies.

I can't speak for all cops; I'm not a spokesperson for the FOP, by any means, but I don't abide shit police work, and I don't sit by and watch cops violate rights. I've stopped three illegal searches by members of my own department, and I've come to blows with other officers over their actions more than once.

This job is unique, in that the law gives us the power to take away someone's freedom, and in certain unique situations, a person's life.

To abuse the trust put in you by the taxpayers, the council, the mayor, the chief, and your family and community members is irredeemable.

Unions will protect any member, regardless of circumstance; that is the job of a union. That's more where your problem lies.

This. According the left, if someone attacks a cop and goes for their gun or pulls their own gun on a cop, the cop defending himself makes him a bully and a racist depending on the race of his attacker.
