Board 8 > Rumor: Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu and Let's Go Eevee for Switch possibly a thing.

So there had been a lot of various rumors and things piling up that the Switch Pokemon game would feature a return to Kanto, and that it would be not quite a remake. Now Emily Rogers, who admittedly does not have a perfect track record, has said that the games (out this year) will have a naming theme that will raise some eyebrows and could be taking some inspiration from Pokemon Go. And then a logo with the title Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu popped up (well apparently it first popped up on April 1st).

Some time ago there was also an alleged leaked screenshot of the game showing a trainer riding a Lapras, and it looks like there's an Eevee sitting on the trainer's head.

It's basically a 1:1 recreation of Route 21.

Even Serebii is mentioning this rumor on his site, and he very rarely posts that kind of stuff.

There's various other things that could line up with it too if it's real, like most notably some guy on Twitter who'd been claiming he knew what the games were and made a bunch of drawings with what he kept trying to reiterate had hints for the new games in them. Two of the drawings show a trainer catching a Pikachu or an Eevee with the Pokemon logo overhead like they're the boxart, another was a short comic strip that ends with the words "let's go". Plus other random things that could be teases or could very easily just be people looking too hard into things like Masuda recently tweeting a picture of a Pikachu in a Luigi costume (let's a go!) with smaller Pikachu and Eevee plushes in front of it or another pic of a display stand with a bunch of Pikachu and Eevee plushes.

They are obviously pushing Eevee HARD lately, with Project Eevee starting half a year ago, then Eevee role in the new movie, and Masuda tweets
It can be because Eevee is the second most popular Pokemon ever (I think) and those leaks are based around the Eevee pushing and not the other way...but at least it isn't a braindead leak and Masuda tweet is clever
It's also not the first time he is doing this (he hinted about Sun and Moon)

I just don't want it to be a remake of Yellow, nor do I want a Pokemon Go catching mechanics

A fully original game set in the same location as a previous game could potentially be interesting, even if it's Kanto and not somewhere good. The only other time they've done that was BW2, which I did not give the proper respect it may have deserved, so I'll try to be more open to the idea if it happens again.

I'm sort of hyped, except for the Go mechanics. Which, if implemented well, could actually be really good.

This exactly. Put in Kantoian forms and thats a game I would buy. Game freak has fostered a lot of bad will with ultra sun and moon, so Im dubious of anything going forward

Also, it makes sense and I'm not surprised we are revisiting Kanto again.

FR/LG came out after R/S, IIRC, and the last remakes we gor were OR/AS. It makes sense we get another Kanto-centered remake, then a new generation, and then a D/P remake.

Basically nintendo tried to bill it as this exciting new story to sun and moon with new locals and a different alola.

Only to find out it was just the exact same game but with a robot with a mustache who follows you around talking about how bright it is.

Am I the only one who wants a Pokemon game at this point that kind of breaks the mold a bit? Like, get us away from the beat all these gyms and then beat the Elite 4 and stuff.

Even if you have progression exactly like you beat x amount of major people to get to a gauntlet fight and then beat somebody at the end, it would do a lot to make the games feel more fresh.

I would love to see them revisit Kanto, but have Team Rocket actually have managed to take it over, and you're just a kid who ends up getting a Pokemon while your rival is someone who decides to join up with Team Rocket. Beat people who "rule" each town with a gym leader to try helping liberate the towns instead, and then different stuff happens when you free the towns and you can access different things.

I'm thinking a sort of Breath of the Wild kind of change to the series. I think Pokemon could really benefit from it.

Wasn't that what S/M was supposed to be? I mean they still had elite 4 and kahunas but there were still some differences.

Something interesting. There's recently been Johto merchandise with the tagline of "Let's Go to Johto". Also according to some person that tracks Pokemon merchandise, there's a lot of both Kanto and Johto stuff scheduled for late this year.

The reason the black and white's were great games was because it felt like there were actually stakes to what you were doing. Instead of a bumbling team that you just beat up whenever you met, team plasma was a presence in Unova, Ghetsis and the Sages never even viewed you as a threat, and the game didn't artlessly throw you against them because that way the plasma organization seemed more out of your reach, when N battled you, it wasn't with a set team, it was usually with pokemon he had just met, so you got the feeling you never really had a true fight against him.

S/M are the opposites, basically everyone on the islands is your friend, including the villains, and there's just such a friendship theme through the whole game that it's hard to feel like there's any point to the story.

I'm not really complaining about Sun and Moon, because a game centered around Hawaii really SHOULD be about friendliness and kindness, I just do hope they bring back a little bit of sting to the story.

The TPP anniversary Crystal hack did that, though you didn't get to go through that much of Kanto before you went to Johto.

I haven't cared about Pokemon since XY. Those games were real bad and completely soured the series for me.

The only thing that will get me back in is a complete teardown and rebuild of the franchise.

Didn't buy S/M or US/UM because the new Pokemon were so terrible.

So I don't really have a problem with going back to Kanto in the style of the modern games, especially if they throw in best region Johto for good measure. I play plenty of hacks that do similar things.
