Part 4's epilogue made up for anything they did wrong (Apparently the manga didn't have one, so it made it cooler)

especially so considering it HAD one period, unlike part 3

The Anime for Jojo so far didn't totally keep the Hokuto stuff either

It kept the manga aesthetic while updating the style

I'm actually looking forward to them finding a middle ground with Part 7 and 8

This is the worst thing about it really. Greasy stuff is great once in a while, but they went from 10/15 episodes per part, to 50 episodes for part 3. There's no way part 1 or 2 could've lasted 50 episodes without getting stale either.

i did not expect this topic to live on in the form of an argument about jojo, but kokoro was able to see it because of that and leave a good list of recommendations so i guess it all worked out

as far as Jojo goes I skipped 1 and 2 because I had read the beginning of the manga of 3 as a kid

I did not actually like 3 much and it took me maybe a year to finish it. actually, I don't think I ever did.

I finished Part 4 in like a week though, I liked it way more.

Maybe I'll watch parts 1 and 2 someday, I think there's other anime I'd rather watch though

To be fair, Stardust Crusaders also had five more volumes of manga to cover. Though yeah, they really fuck with the pacing, as evident by needing near double length to cover 17 volumes instead of 12. There's a ton of issues with Part 3 as a whole that Part 4 essentially fixes completely, but I won't bother going into my analysis in here.

Part 3 still good though, it's just sandwiched between two masterworks. To continue the food analogies, it's like going to 5-star restaurants for breakfast and dinner, but having Denny's for lunch.

Part 4 follows a similar formula to Part 3, but written in a way that doesn't make the story feel tedious. It's also only 39 episodes, which leaves a lot less room for it to skirt about it's fights, so they're almost always at their best. I mean, I'm pretty biased in my opinion though. I think it's one of the greatest works in the medium.

I mean....this is not the norm. Part 3 only gets amazing praise by people who have only seen Part 3 for the most part, which is a lot of people. 4 is pretty unanimously agreed better.

That's good because Dio in part 3 is one of the worst villains in all of anime (which is weird since he was so fucking good in part 1)

Part 3 might have pacing issues, but it has lots of funny moments too which makes it easier for me to ignore. Josephs Engrish is amazing and Polnareffs hand signals scene is hilarious among other stuff

It's a shame that people underappreciate Part 1 so much. It's 9 episodes of nonstop plot progression and Jojo stuff happening. No filler and no BS.

I blame Jonathan. Id imagine most probably do because boy is he pretty inferior to the Jojos who come after him

Part 1 has SO many iconic moments. Like it's obviously show-defining (and genre-defining in the manga?) but there's some stuff that 2/3 didn't even come close to... usually involving Zeppeli yes. "to be continued" etc

Jonathon is better than Jotaro, Giorno, and Josuke who are all pretty questionable protagonists. Jojo protagonists are as a whole hit or miss. Unfortunately, not everyone is Joseph.

Man Ive only seen 3 parts and like 8~ episodes of part 4 and Id comfortably put Jonathan in last. Joseph definitely the best so far.

Jonathan at least had the cookie cutter good boy style which provided a hilarious contrast to every other character who was absolutely out of their minds.

But Jotaro just had the same smoldering look on his face the whole time, there's no chance for comedy or character with him. That's why they made Polnareff the de facto main character.

Jotaro is a character with zero internal conflicts outside of wanting to punch things. He has no flaws and never fails and almost every scene with him that doesn't involve Dio is boring - it's just Jotaro winning followed by yare yare daze. He's also surrounded by a bunch of much better characters which doesn't help.

I don't even have anything to say about Giorno. He barely feels like a character.

Josuke has some degree of characterization but his hair gimmick is stupid and he can act really annoying at times. He has little to do with why Part 4 is appreciated.

Jonathon may come across as a 'standard' character because he lacks the stupid gimmicks of some later Jojo protagonists but as a character used extremely well within the context of Part 1. His extreme honorable Britishness is a great contrast to both the weird crap that starts to happen, as well as Dio's sociopathy - Jonathon and Dio in Part 1 is by far the best character relationshop the series has produced outside of maybe Johnny and Gyro in Part 7. He probably would have gotten boring if Part 1 had tons of filler like Part 3 but thankfully it didn't.

Part two is the best Jojo that has been animated. It has the best jojo and has given the overall best fights in the series. The final one is like a goat anime battle.
