I mean...you're not really wrong in those regards.

I think Obama was a good President, but he fucked up real bad for letting his major accomplishments get so easily undone by underestimating the pettiness and pure hatred Trumpers have for him.

What a disaster.

Im also outraged by this, MWC. Im glad your topic title conveys the proper tone when describing the petty destruction of foreign treaties for the sole reason of negating a respected Presidents legacy.

Its a shame that A. The next president wont be so petty to erase Trumps legacy (and the damage done to our international standing will never be undone), B. Even if such pettiness existed, Trump has no actual legacy, having accomplished nothing.

On the first we'll just agree to disagree....

On the second... we don't negotiate with terrorists, I'm not down for paying someone just to potentially leave us alone. If they wanna get involved they'll die. It really is that simple. I'm not gonna pay these people to not interfere.

I'm going to speak softly and carry a big stick letting them know that if they get involved you'll be meeting your maker.

Paris didn't mean anything. Iran was good because it lifted dumbass sanctions. But it's no surprise that the Price Control Prince Trump wanted to get rid of that. Any free market is just an opportunity to him to get his dirty hands in there.

You will choose the option to scream loudly every single time, regardless of what stick is involved. You will give up your national security for talking points, every single time.

That's why you will be disappointed in 2018, 2019, and especially 2020. But today you seem happy so I guess that's cool.

As a "we intend to meddle in international affairs" button yes.

It was the birth of soft power and resulted in Teddy negotiating the end of the Russo-Japanese war by getting all parties to recognize that the US held sovreignty over much of the Pacific and was therefore entitled to have a say in wars trade and the like in the region yes.

Teddy didnt just build a big navy as a defensive move - because defensivr against who exactly? It was aggressive and meant to result in peacetime concessions....not unlike the Iran Nuclear Deal.

One, please explain why you disagree with climate change? Ive seen arguments about liberals trying to pick winners and losers in the economy and prop up green energy corporations. Which, fine. Id be okay with that argument IF one couldnt immediately reverse it to point out how denying climate change allows the government to prop up the coal and oil industries, both of which have existed long enough to lobby legislators specifically to deny climate change.

Now, enacting climate change policies has a great number of positives. First off, renewable energy requires more manpower, thus creating more jobs and stimulating the economy. Second, the U.S. taking the lead allows us to remain at the forefront of the world stage, rather than allowing rising world powers like China to usurp us. Given how the ENTIRE rest of the world is onboard with the Paris Accord, renewable energy is going to be a major sector of the economy in the near future, yet we are abandoning it in order to further bolster the profits of coal and oil companies.

Finally, as we saw this past hurricane season, the storms are getting worse. Three major hurricanes devastating Florida, Texas and Puerto Rico. Hurricane strength is dependent on ocean temperatures, and as they rise, it only superchanges these storms to cause more damage and waste more taxpayer money on the relief efforts. Climate change being combated is fiscally responsible.

In case I'm not making it obvious enough the latter is the ridiculous standard being applied by conservatives to doing anything about climate change

Whether not "hedging" is smart depends entirely on the cost of the hedge and the estimation of potential damages.

It's certainly not always inherently good to hedge because "what if something bad happens." Do you buy the most comprehensive extended warranty you can on every purchase you make?
