halfway through the magic dude's party expansion when I hit a wall on the single player stuff

Constructed: Shaman is back to dumpster tier (I think it has one good deck in Wild). Priest took its place for a while then got nerfed. Now Warlock and Paladin are the best classes because they have the best heals+control and face plan, respectively. Meanwhile, Priest has burst damage now and Druid is the armor class. There's a new 6 drop that's a 4/4 that summons a 12/12, and 2-drops are bad in aggro because you only want 1 in your deck. Building decks with only even or odd cards is a powerful strategy. You know, normal stuff.

Arena: You now need a PhD to understand offering rates. But now everyone can play op cards.

Adventures: Are dead but have been replaced with this cool deckbuilding + boss rush single player mode. Though Frozen Throne had a normal adventure mode so we might go back, but people seem to vastly prefer the new model.

Good times. (Not really). The meta of Boom vs BGH was a funny one. Even Aggro decks would sometimes play BGH, and generally would end their curve with Dr Boom

DK Gul'dan: 10 mana, gain 5 armor, summon two 5/7's with haste plus 36+ health in taunts, and also your hero power is literally a less expensive Drain Life that deals more damage.

Yeah in Dr. Boom's time everything was sort of midrange goodstuff, and he was the best of that sort of threat. He didn't really warp the meta or force anything out, he was just heavily played and frustrating to see every match. Yeah you had to play at least 1 BGH but I think given a choice you'd play that card anyways.

I doubt this is new info, but lol the Whisperer. I had Sticky Fingers and the razorpetal thingy for infinite damage turn 2. Think I actually coulda done it turn 1 with Sinister Strike if I'd been paying attention.

watching the videos Kripp has posted has been super hilarious though. his opponents are sooooo fucking stupid I can't help but laugh pretty much through the entire second half of every match. they will literally somehow fail to play around cards that are in THEIR OWN DECK. it's like... you chose these cards, how could you not know that Kripp has access to them? even worse when they don't even play around cards that were in their own hand when Kripp steals their hand with Azalina.

I think the point about most hearthstone players being pretty bad at the game is spot on

I played like four games today or something and won three

One of them was against a Druid where on turn 1 I passed, turn 2 I used beetle, and turn 3 I used stone hill

Thankfully I play at the scrub ranks so it doesn't really matter, but when I'm tired of playing against a specific meta deck I'll nope out of games the second I realize I'm playing against yet another one.

The last few months of the previous standard era I'd instant concede the second I saw a Druid play a jade card. Better things to do with my time than deal with that shit.

He was playing a slow Druid and I was playing control warlock. So hes either playing toggwoggle or taunt.

Lol, doom is absolutely better than Emperor. Emperor goes in combo, or some decent control decks that just want to make the next 8-9 turns cleaner. Dr Boom just came out and would destroy everything in its path.

Im satisfied with that ending, surprised that it was Tarim in the final round.

Damn. If they were going to try to use the tavern brawl to draw people into WoW, they should have tried making it remotely fun or interesting. Such a slow painful highroll contest.

My brawl opponent buffed his first three eggs with Poisonous, and all three resulting minions came out with zero attack. Then he conceded. I'm glad I got the win in my first game because that brawl was slow as hell without any hint that it might pick up.

Anyone who played more than a couple of turns, do the egg minions ever turn into anything good or is it endless one and two drops?

They ramp up over time, but it's still a miserable experience. I spent over 20 minutes just to get absolutely horrifically curb-stomped twice. My opponents got laughably better rolls than me.

Yeah I have the Tavern Brawl quest this week and I'm not looking forward to it.

At rank 17, I just lost to an even spiteful priest who was running spirit lash in his deck.

This Tavern Brawl is garbage. I got out RNG'd by turn 4 in two straight games and closed Hearthstone.

I have 3 quests and I should probably complete one so that I can get a new one tomorrow but I can't bring myself to actually play this game right now.

I stopped playing Hearthstone right after Frozen Throne released and didn't come back until the next expansion, and right now I'm getting the same feeling I was around that time. I don't even particularly think any one deck is too overpowered or anything like that. I've come to terms with Warlock, and I actually like Spiteful Druid, the game just feels incredibly unfun to play right now as a whole. It probably doesn't help that I didn't like Monster Hunt at all (I still have the second "beat X bosses" quest and have no interest in doing it), despite having a great time with Dungeon Run.

The only difference this time is that I don't have a card game to replace Hearthstone with like I did last year with Gwent. I fell off that and need a card game of some form in my life.

agree 100% about Monster Hunt and I'm in the same situation. didn't even start my Canoneer quest... not sure if it's even worth a free pack to me to waste that much time on something I don't enjoy. although maybe I'll do it just to clear out my quest log at some point.

what kind of decks do you normally enjoy playing? I think there's a very interesting space in the meta where you should be able to reasonably build a deck that fits your preferred playstyle and create favorable match ups against the common decks at whatever rank you're playing.

or to put it another way I think netdecking is really bad right now, but creating your own decks to take down the netdecks feels more possible than it has been in the past... and it's actually been pretty fun and rewarding to me. comparing this to say, the meta leading up to karazhan, and karazhan itself, where I felt like it was literally impossible for me to build a deck that was fun to play while also having a remote chance of winning against shaman. I just couldn't do it.

I'm in a tough spot because my enjoyment of the game comes from winning and playing "meaningful" games (whatever that means as a casual player), and at rank 7, that generally involves playing the "best" decks in order to rank up.

Spiteful Druid was definitely my kind of deck, but then I lost 6 straight ranked games with it where I didn't draw Spiteful once (which sounds like an Ulti statistic) and that turned me off of the deck. With Aggro, I always feel like the game is decided at the mulligan or shortly after it, where you win if you drew good and lose if you don't. I though Even Paladin would fix that because it's more of a Midrange deck, but it still comes down to the Call To Arms draw in the mirror match.

Honestly, at this point I think actually playing Cubelock might be my best bet. It's a skill-intensive deck, so I'll be challenged while playing it as I learn what optimal plays are, and theoretically I should be rewarded with good play with wins. I've been so close to biting the bullet 3 or 4 times since it became a thing, but worry about the dust investment and potential nerfs making it a waste of time.

Obviously I should have just done it awhile ago, but at this point I should probably just wait for these rumoured nerfs to get announced and see where the game goes from there.

ah yeah I can't offer any specific input in that case, but I think what you're saying makes a lot more sense now... especially when I think about my own perspective. you're basically saying your main enjoyment comes from winning, which means playing the best decks. but the way I see things is that the best decks are actually REALLY easy to target right now. which means that even if you play the best decks you can still be easily targeted and won't be able to win certain games. so I can see how that wouldn't be fun.

and spiteful druid is an example of the other type of 'high success' deck where the high level of variance also means you will just straight up lose certain games if you fail to draw summoner.

3-3 just now, my 'worst' winrate session with this deck being only 50%

sadly it was arranged in a way that I didn't get any win streak bonus and I just ended up with the exact amount of stars I started with. oh well.

running into a lot more midrange anti aggro stuff and way less paladins, so I'm thinking of tweaking my deck again now since I'm currently overtuned to deal with paladin... and if I'm not facing them I'd really rather have some 2-3 attack minions instead of 1-2 attack minions.

Played some more games went 7-2 to hit rank 1. I used control mage and paladin. It seems that most quest rogues are gone from not legend and its been almost all warlock or paladin for two days.

Not sure how much Im going to play this month. Got rank 1 so I dont reset below 5. But I dont really like playing right now.
