You know what moment I'm talking about, so
I won't type it here.

But I have never seen an audience react like when it happened.... HELL, I myself reacted and I never react at movies.

There were people who no joke stood up and cheered. It was surreal.

Was that hype though? I mean, Banner sold it as such but I didn't think it was all that huge besides getting more of the band together.

Plus Thor is second only to Starlord in royally fucking things up for everyone, so that tempers things as well.

That's fair.

But I'm just gonna say the Russo Bros vehemently disagree with you, with how that scene was set.

The Order is just ravaging our heroes, even Cap is struggling when fighting more than 2 at a time, then when things get bleakest the music changes, and this fucking Thunder Ax comes out of nowhere and in SECONDS kills more than all our heroes combined for the last half hour, and then it returns to the hand of a fully healed fully charged Thor as we see Groot and Rocket and the bifrost, as the Avengers theme music crescendos, and we see Cap and everyone else stunned and looking like they know they are saved now, and as you said, Banner yelling how screwed the order is now. We end with the astounding of climax of Thor sprinting, bellowing BRING ME THANOS!!!!! at Thanos's "kids", leaping into the sky, changing into the Lightning god glowing with power, and bringing the Stormbreaker down causing mass destruction on all enemies.

You don't know which one is the theme for the Avengers (at least the original 6, I noticed they only played it for Hulk, Cap, IM, and of course Thor this movie)?

That is nice, but does it really compare to how the better scene was set?

Starlord and Gamora are talking about emotional shit I kinda forget already. Suddenly, they turn to the side. Is somebody there? Is somebody watching? Feeling pity on them, our hero decides to allow himself to be seen. He has been standing there, as he informs them, for an entire hour. Completely invisible. Feeling it best to allow his teammates in on the secret of his power, he showcases the results of his training to them. Slowly, he moves. Slowly, he feeds, both literally and on the power he has built up inside of him. Several people can move fast, yes, but nobody but Drax can move so slowly that they completely trick one of our most important senses: sight. Unfortunately, much like many moments in the movie, Starlord ruins it by being too insecure to admit how impressed he is by Drax's display, and he pretends to have been able to see him. And while Drax knows the truth, he plays along, not wanting to hurt his leader's feelings any further.

The themes are all so generic in comparison with... just about any other major series. It's my only gripe with the quality of filmmaking.

As for the Wakanda battle, I'm just gonna make one thing clear here that I think we're all overlooking

Bruce got overwhelmed by enemies at one point.
Cap got overwhelmed by enemies at one point.
Panther and Soldier and Falcon and Rhodey and Widow all got overwhelmed by enemies at one point.
Vision got a bad case of the deads.
Wanda and Thor ultimately failed their mission.

The one hero who was never shown to falter
The one hero who did nothing but kick ass in every battle scene he was featured in

The one true hero of Avengers 4

You're looking at this from a meta stand point.

No one in the theater with the way it was set up is gonna think "eh, it's just crowd control"

Watch YT and DM reactions to it. No one is screaming about crowd control.

If you want to claim after the fact it's just awesome crowd control, fine, but that's not the picture the Russo's painted or how their audience reacted.

and then immediately went into crowd control mode and never figured into any of the Order fights

I'd argue Groot finishing the axe was way more hype than their earth entrance

It's not that bad of a fuck up! A headshot would have been much more likely to miss, his depth perception has to be off due to the new eye, it's a new weapon, and he still managed to hurl it through a full stones Gauntlet beam and catch Thanos in the chest and damn near killed him. Made him run like a bitch after the snap too.

I mean a headshot would have been ideal but it just wasn't in the cards.

For the record, I don't begrudge Thor for aiming at center mass. The fact that he connected with a fully gauntleted Thanos at all is pretty spectacular, really.

It's the everything afterwards, the taunting and the slow torture of pushing the axe in further instead of finishing him off that I hold against him. Especially since Thor got that cave hallucination crash course on the Stones in Dark World, so he of all people should have known not to dick around there. It's completely in character for Thor, don't get me wrong, but it was the wrong move.

Plus, somehow, Thanos comes out looking the best when trying to kill people in this movie. Compare Thor taunting Thanos to Thanos almost comforting Tony (You have my respect/I hope they remember you) and it's almost comical how reversed the roles seem to be.

I don't believe Thor knew Thanos could literally just snap and accomplish his goal, did he? Like, you'd think if you have a guy pretty much pinned down and are shoving an axe through his chest, he'd be pretty incapable of doing much, so I don't fault him entirely

We, as nerds who know about this, know Gamora is serious about that since it's in the comics.

However, Thor probably thought she was exaggerating since the idea of snapping your fingers and erasing half the population is insanity and only Gamora understands she is being completely literal because she is the only one that has such knowledge of the Infinity Stones.

If the comics had never had the snap, we would have never expected Thanos to actually be able to snap and erase half the population. And certainly Thor wouldn't be able to understand that since I believe he snaps and Thor goes "What did you do!?"

That's why I also brought up Thor's primer on the stones in Dark World. He probably has the most knowledge on them than anyone else, so he should know that she was being serious about their combined power.

Like I said, it's completely in Thor's character to do what he did but he had all the information necessary to know that it was the wrong play and he chose to do it anyway.

Thanos' goal makes sense to a point, you'd think once he gathers the stones he'd have plenty of solutions to overpopulation that don't involve annihilating half the the universe.

But they did a good job making him an engaging three-dimension villain, the visual redesign helped a ton

I suspect Nebula will play a crucial role as she did in the comics

Buddy, I don't know how to even reason with this. It's a fantastic, fondly-regarded ending to a story that is considered one of Marvel's all-time greats. It fits the character perfectly and it encapsulates Thanos' greatest weaknesses and also his relationship with Nebula. In fact, it would play perfectly in the movies - they have built it over the course of the Guardians' films. I know you're not a comic guy, but if you haven't read it, you can't comment.
