Nah, but I can't tell if he's looking at the camera because of the cameraman or the audience he imagines will be watching.

No... no he doesn't. At least not a real one.

He is breaking the fictional fourth wall that would exist within the office universe if it actually existed. Because he is spiking the camera for THAT audience of the documentary, (that again, doesn't exist) he is not spiking it for us.

I don't want my own answer to potentially influence the results, but

it's difficult to say. there is definitely a cameraman character and a camera crew that exists in universe and if I recall correctly there are scenes which suggest they have some kind of familiarity with the workers at dunder-mifflin. obviously this makes sense if the documentary crew is in the office all of the time for several years.

in the end I'm in the same position as you. I can't tell if Jim is just friends with the camera guy and looks at him to get a reaction out of his jokes, or if he's looking at the camera as part of a bit where he's trying to make a reaction for the intended (fictional) audience. I don't think Jim is aware of the real audience (us) and I don't think that he breaks the fourth wall.

Makes you wonder though, I don't think the characters really act like they've been affected by the tv show that's been running for years.

The documentary doesn't actually air until the end of the show.

you can imagine the characters don't see themselves as TV stars, but they more just felt like the camera crew and other people working on the show were extra men and women hanging out at the office every day. especially after they got used to the cameras always being there. it likely stopped affecting them.

this does require a bit of suspension of disbelief because either

A. the documentary crew was allowed to keep filming for years without ever releasing any footage... which really makes you wonder where they were getting the money to produce this documentary that nobody was watching

or

B. the show was being aired but no one in the office knew they were in a popular TV show despite... being in a popular TV show

Does a character in a reality show break the fourth wall when taking to the camera? No.

Every Jim does and references is in universe so he doesn't break the fourth wall

As already noted, why did they film for almost a decade. I did drop the show after like 5 or 6 seasons though.

that makes me think Jim was told not to look at the camera, but whenever he sees something funny he still has a habit of looking at his friend to get a reaction and his friend just happens to be the cameraman.

it functions like breaking the fourth wall, but there is an in-universe explanation for it

it's somewhere between options 2, 3, and 4 - the fact that the camera crew hold cameras and don't interact with the plot is important to jim's looks

Does the same cameraman follow him to that other branch?

Wouldn't he know he was getting special treatment if they literally followed him
