He's obsessed with anime and Japanese culture and wants to live like an anime show and have hot spring episodes and sit in those traditional japanese houses, shit like that.

I wonder how xenophobic are japan if he's non white? You think he'll be welcomed there with (relatively) open arms?

Japanese expect foreigners to be tall. A foreigner that just meets their average height is "short" to them.

It was a small group of us making small talk, joking around, asking her how shes liking the States and some chick joked We gotta find you an American boyfriend! And they went around the group trying to play up all the guys and when they got to me she said Hes cute I just want somebody whos a little taller. And everyone burst out in laughter, I just laughed and put my head down in disappointment.

Im taller than her by a good, noticeable, 3 - 4 inches.

thank you. ive been trying to say this for the longest time. you can't go into a country, where you are ethnically different than everyone else and expect to be treated equally. you're a foreinger. just accept that people are gonna treat you different, look at you weirdly, and assume things about you and get on with your life.

but no, folks gotta be like "THE JAPANESE ARE RACIST! WHY ARE THEY TREATING ME DIFFERENT!" jesus christ.

if i ever move to korea, ill be a foreigner. cuz i am a foreigner! doesn't mean people won't like me. it just means i can't get surprised when people treat me differently! its not their fault, im the one who decided to waltz into their country!

That doesn't mean anything. There's two outcomes from him knowing Japanese and living in Japan. The first is they'll be impressed a foreigner knows their language. The second is they won't talk about him in front of his face in Japanese.

See, it's more than all that. Respect for the culture is a big key thing.

I personally want to venture there some day and without just saying it because games or anime (both which I grew out of), I'd say pretty well that my mannerisms IRL are far more "Japanese" than typical American. I address people I don't know as sir or miss. I screw up, I bow with my apologies. I'm very non-confrontational and refuse to instigate fights or anything.

I've always been like this. No idea why. My family isn't. I just.... forced myself into IRL mannerisms. I think being in Japan, for me, would be a really interesting breath of fresh air I don't get over here.

Of course, it could be disappointing, but we will hopefully see some day.

Depends on the region. As usual places like Tokyo are generally accepting while rural areas are more racist and less receptive to trying to fit in.

Ayy lmao.

Anyway, Japan already looks down on the actual Japanese otakus (the games/anime enthusiasts). Other types of asians get a little flack if found out. A white otaku is considered below that. A non-white/asian otaku another tier down. A black otaku... hoo boy.

It's a very racist country. And they're not forced to move past that since they're an island with strict immigration law that's 99% one nationality.
