he Oklahoma House passed a bill yesterday that would allow adoption and foster care agencies to discriminate against parents whose lives violate the sincerely held religious beliefs of the agency.

The Adoption Protection Act passed the GOP-controlled house in a 60-26 vote. A similar bill has already passed the Oklahoma Senate.

Supporters of the bill stressed that the states foster care system is overloaded.

While most people would think this is an argument in favor of maximizing the number of available parents to take children in, supporters say that religious agencies will take their ball and go home instead of placing kids in decent homes that violate the agencies sincerely held religious beliefs.

Opponents said that the bill would allow discrimination based on anti-LGBTQ hatred.

The bill is discriminatory, harmful to youth and completely unnecessary, said Troy Stevenson, executive director of Freedom Oklahoma.

We will continue to fight against it becoming law, we will fight it in the court of public opinion, and we will fight it in court if necessary.

Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin (R) is expected to sign the bill, which would make it the only anti-LGBTQ state law passed in 2018.

The caveat is they cant be state or federally funded which is the loophole for state agencies. Basically it allows the religious assholes to do the whole take their ball and go home but dont ask for help with your foster kids. Seems like it might be more show than anything else. I have to imagine if it included state adoption agencies they would get a nice hard punch in the face from SCOTUS.

This is true but kinda non statement as there hasn't even been research for 20 years yet. So it's not saying a great deal.

The good news is that Mary Fallin is done. With her role in the Oklahoma budget crisis and support for the teachers, there's no way she or anyone associated with her takes the governor's seat.

At the same time, this is just another example of the state legislatures and the governor shooting the well-being of the state in the foot as an act of political theater designed to appeal to the absolute worst of us. I can't really be disappointed, my opinion of them already couldn't get any lower. Executions, castration, long term/life imprisonment, or lobotomies for homosexual people were common in so-called Christian societies up until about the 1960's. Stonewall, for example, happened because the cops would raid the gay bars just to harass the customers there, and they could get away with arresting people just for being gay or the suspicion of it.

You still find the mentality in "Christian" places like Uganda, which notoriously was considering execution or life imprisonment for homosexuality. The only reason why they did not do this is because they were afraid of international backlash... there is still the mentality that gay people, especially activists, need to be murdered to "protect the children."

And it should be noted that it was an AMERICAN evangelist, Scott Lively, who encouraged all of this because he wanted to see gay people being murdered in the streets in Uganda. He couldn't get it done in America so he would settle for Uganda. There is also Russia, where there is state sanctioned violence against homosexual people, especially in Chechnya, and where people are so emboldened that they actually film themselves beating, kidnapping, and torturing LGBT people.

Besides, as you are quite aware and merely trying to deflect from ,the whole point is that these people PRETEND to give a fuck about the civil rights of LGBT people when they can use it to sling mud at Islam, but when that's not a factor, they are all too happy to let it be known that they consider our community to be subhuman filth and seek to treat us in kind, even going out of their way to do so. They will always ignore far more important legislation in order to scapegoat LGBT people.

Private adoption centers in the south being assholes isn't comparable to being publicaly executed for sucking cock.
