Or have one built if that tends to be the better way to go. Either way, I'm actually going to have a nice desk setup to sit at and want to get a desktop PC.

I want something that's going to be really good for gaming and such, and that will last me atleast a decent while. Let's say price is no issue, though I'd rather not get ridiculous

Thanks B8 you rock doubleGunsEmoji

I recommend trying to build your own - it's really not nearly as hard as you think, and is actually kind of fun. I went through it for the first time a couple years ago and it was kinda cool!

This. Maybe takes an hour, hour and a half to put together and it's also usually cheaper too.

Can anyone give me a nudge in the right direction for what kind of stuff I'd be looking for in doing that? I've never built anything before and thus never have gotten into individual parts and such

Okay, so the internet is telling me that because of cryptocurrency driving prices up or something, it's not actually that much cheaper to build one than it is to buy prebuilt at the current moment, and that if you're going to buy prebuilt at all, this is the time to do it.

So just for the sake of options in case I do want to go prebuilt, are there any brands to aim for or avoid?

Okay, so those that know more than me

How does this seem? Most of the parts seem comparable to buying them on like, Newegg. Is this an actual decent setup? Good? Overkill?

Man, I weep at that GTX 1070 price. I got mine for less than that.

Though I should say that, if you're already paying over $500 for the GTX 1070, then you might as well pay like an extra $90 for a GTX 1080.

https://www.amazon.com/EVGA-GeForce-Support-Graphics-08G-P4-6183-KR/dp/B01GAI6478

Just something to consider.

And maybe go for more space for the SSD? I have a 250 GB SSD as well, but I kinda wish I had more space for it.

I actually never needed CPU cooling, usually fans have been good enough for me.

Yeah, I was tempted to do that

I can't claim to know much other than apparently the price on graphics cards and the like got driven up lately for some reason

Good lord you are paying way too much for that.

https://www.reddit.com/r/pcmasterrace/wiki/builds

Take a look at the stuff on here. You can get something of comparable power for waaay less than that. Like half the price.

Iunno. For each build, they're only listing the price of the weakest part they consider to be able to hit that build tier. Like, in the best one, it still only lists a GTX 1060 which seems a decent bit less good than the 1080. When you upgrade all the parts to the midline or high end of that tier (including just parts they actually list), it quickly starts to get closer to the prices I found

EDIT: Like, on the site I used, I can get the price a lot closer to that by downgrading everything to what they list there, but it suggests there would be a decent difference in performance.

I mean yes, but unless you're doing something other than gaming like you're planning on doing hardcore video editing etc or you want to future proof for like 12 years down the line, you don't need more than that.

I'm still using a 970 and hitting consistent 60 fps on medium-high settings in modern games and that's like a 4 year old card now (and was the budget card when it came out!).

Getting the absolute top of the line stuff is a newbie trap for computer builds.

A big reason for this is that most games these days are made to be able to run on consoles, which don't even come close to the specs the $600 range builds on there can do.

Ones that challenge even a mid range build are rare.

...Oh. I scrolled down and found basically almost the identical build except with less HDD space and they list it at $1,500, so yeah. >_>

Well, yeah, I guess that's fair.

I just don't really wanna have to update in the next few years, so I'd kinda rather pay a bit more now than have to do that later. I mean, I don't really wanna go completely top of the line, but it seems like it'd be better to get a 1070 or 1080, for instance.

Though like said I'm noobish at this so maybe you're right

That Cryorig H7 is the fan and heatsink. At some point Intel stopped providing heatsinks with their unlocked cpus figuring anyone opting for a cpu they could overclock would also purchase a beefier cooling option anyway.

I would look for a faster option for the ram but that is something you can upgrade later if you really want to. The board would support it and maybe prices will have gone down some if you choose to do that.

I could do with a new PC but goddamn they're so expensive these days! The last time I built a PC was like 2006 or something and I got all the parts for right around $1000 and it was practically as good as it could be!

They're not too bad if you're willing to upgrade in a few years like tcaz pointed out, but yeah the prices on stuff have jacked up recently if you're like me and looking for something that'll last a good while

That $1000 figure should still be about right, but cryptocurrency and the resulting mass purchasing/scalping for server farms has absolutely ruined GPU prices. We're still at a point where even manufacturers recognize it as a huge problem but have no idea what to do about it.

Speaking of this, my friend was just telling me that sometime soon something is happening regarding the high prices? Like a boycott or something I'm not sure.
